Tiger-Cats win thriller to sweep season series with Argonauts

TORONTO — It wasn’t technically a must-win for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night, but it might as well have been. Chasing the pack at the bottom of the East Division, the Ticats came away with a vital 33-31 win against the Toronto Argonauts to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Time Management issues cost the Argos the game
Last drive
Two receivers catch passes and run out of bounds stopping the clock
You throw two incomplete passes from the 11
Run the ball twice, run the clock down to less then 30 seconds chances are Ticats burn their timeout
Kick the field goal

How about that! Mr. Jones, Mr. Chris Jones that is, has two teams vying to make the 2024 CFL playoffs, one team in the West Division and his current team the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Mr. Jones would make a very good replacement Head Coach/Gm moving forward 2025 for the Roughriders. Mr. Jones can finish what he started to do, win the Grey Cup for saskatchewan.

The Tiger Cats played well and deserved the win! My concern did peak when the O couldn’t get the ball into the end zone after 5 tries from the 1 or 2 yard line - but hey they won the game! Oskee-wee=wee!

I was thinking the same thing. Toronto had this game and pissed it away with two incomplete passes.

yeah, oddly if Chad tucks and runs on first down and slides anywhere before the endzone the Argos assuredly win. Even if he connects with Davaris and gets the TD, Hamilton still gets the ball with a chance to win with one minute left. so, either way the Argos were putting it on their kickoff coverage and D to win this game late? I think the first down play call was good, but Chad should have had a “don’t pass” and definiitely “dont run for the TD either” order. Dimwitted play call.

The Tiger-Cats almost gave this game away: one touchdown was cancelled on a penalty while another was a failure to get the ball over the goal line with five tries. I know what the Cats will be doing next practice week ( haha ). Note: in the NFL a friend tells me that 3 or 4 stops at the goal line is not uncommon.

Defence had the opportunity to stop the drive on 3rd and 4, but blown coverage on a play they ran about half a dozen times left Bulter wide open for a first down
Christ everybody on our side of the field saw it coming
Some of us where even yelling and pointing at him sliding out of the back field
This is not last years defence and the secondary is too soft

Hamilton wins this thriller, but Toronto winning two of its next four games should eliminate the Cats from the Eastern playoffs.

After the Ottawa debacle, I said the Argos were in full collapse mode, would be beaten again by Hamilton and passed by The Cats for the final playoff spot in the east. Then I had egg on my face when the Argos dominated B.C. and looked like Grey Cup winners. I thought with their two best defenders back from injuries, they could get the job done against those Hamilton grays (what ugly, ugly uniforms). So the Argo demons from the past came back to torture us Boatmen fans again. Oh well, the good news is I don’t go to work in a blast furnace every day. The whole Argo coaching staff needs a mirror check because they are making big mistakes on both sides of the ball, especially on defence and losing games because of it. I just don’t know what to make of this team. Why didn’t the defence play tighter and more aggressive on the last drive instead of letting Bo Bo pick them apart for the win.

Right on.

The Ticats only had 1 time out left and the Argos should have done every thing in their plays to make them use it
One running play would have force the Ticats to use their timeout
Instead they literally gave them 4 timeouts with two receivers running out of bounds and two dropped passes on that drive

Gotta give the Argos D credit where credit is due.

Oh look. The Argonuts are human afterall, as are the Alouettes. Hamilton may be the ghost that haunts them, but the Redblacks are the dark horse. The Redblacks are coming, the Redblacks are coming.

Good one!

Off topic I know - while an avid Tiger Cat fan, I have to tell you that I do not care for their grey uniforms. I find them hard to distinguish and just not very attractive - PLUS since when was grey ever part of the black and gold colour scheme? I hope they dump these uniforms after this season - they are just plain ugly!

I agree, but the Argos in baby blue helmet, jersey, pants and socks sure dont reflect the storied history of this franchise either.

You are right about the Argos in baby blue not being sharp looking uniforms either. Do you know, or anyone reading know how team colours (or shades of) and uniform design is decided? By the team?, the league? Either way, improvement is needed.

I think teams use alternate uniforms to sell more jerseys to their fans. Hamilton has the grey, and also had the yellow jersey from the (brief) Jason Maas era.

It is well-known that grey is not a good colour for television. Who in the design world dared to go ahead with the grey Tiger-Cat uniforms?
