Tiger-Cats vs. Bombers Play-by-Play Game Thread: 9/15/2007

Tiger-Cats vs. Blue Bombers: September 15, 2007

Tiger-Cats gameday is here once again. And so the play-by-play game thread for discussion of the game as it happens is due to be posted. Today’s game is the annual Hall of Fame Game, and congratulations to Greg Battle, Dave Knight, Rocco Romano, Pierre Vercheval, and, of course, Darren Flutie, on being inducted into the hall. But this game will be about the present and future of the Ticats, as the Casey Printers era begins for us. And so it will be interesting to discuss this game as we document in this thread what occurs at the beginning of this era.

WHAT – Tiger-Cats Gameday: Tiger-Cats vs. Blue Bombers.

WHO - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

WHY – To see the beginning of the Casey Printers era, and to see if it will get off to a good start. And also to see if Printers actually might be able to get this 1-9 team somewhere this year.

WHERE - Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario.

WHEN - Saturday, September 15th, at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

HOW - Radio: CHML (900 kHz AM) broadcasting from Hamilton, or CJOB (680 kHz AM) broadcasting from Winnipeg.

Television: TSN. The game is available in HD.

Internet: Visit www.900chml.com and click the “listen live? link, or simply click here to listen to CHML now.
You can also visit www.cjob.com and click the “listen live? link if you would like to hear the game from the perspective of Winnipeg’s talking heads. And you can click here to listen to CJOB now.

It is also available via CFL broadband, which you can sign up for if you click here. It will also be available via TSN broadband, which you can view if you click here.

Click here to get CFL.ca's live scoreboard for recent games. You can click the link to view this game's scoreboard whenever it becomes available, likely just after the opening kickoff.

Click here for the game preview here on Ticats.ca.

Click here to view the video game preview via Ticats TV. This video that is 5:49 in length consists mostly of excerpts of the Taaffe press conference, and excerpts of an interview with Printers. Excerpts of interviews with Curry and French are also part of this video.

Click here for view the entire Taaffe press conference. It is 23:24 length but many interesting things are said in it. As you might expect, much is said about Printers and the “Cliff’s Notes? version of the playbook he’ll be working with. Injury status of players, lack of roster continuity (the “revolving door? if you will) and roster changes are among other discussion topics discussed.

Click here for the Tiger-Cats depth chart. Good to see Printers listed there as the starting quarterback. Not good to not see Lumsden there at all.

Click here for that "interactive" depth chart.

The Blue Bombers depth chart is not yet available, but you can click here to view previous depth charts of theirs, and the one for this game whenever it comes up.

Click here for this evening's weather forecast. Right now, there is a 10% probability of precipitation this evening. West winds of 5 km/h are expected. And at this time, it is expected that the temperature will be about 11 degrees Celsius.

And so this game is the first in this new era, and finally the Ticats are led by a quarterback who may just turn the team around. In this Hall of Fame Game, the player to watch may well be a future hall-of-famer. Will Printers turn this team around as some say he might? It will be interesting to find out if he can. Printers makes the Ticats a better team, but how much better? We begin to find out this evening.

Go Ticats!

I just hope Printers can shake off the rust in his first series or two.

It will be a great night for football. Let's' hope for a great game and two points.

Oskee Wee Wee!

Gee that's not asking for too much!! He hasn't played a serious game of football since he left in 2005 and he should be able to shake the rust off in a couple of series?

I see on the depth chart that Tony Tiller is starting at hb. Hope he doesn't have flash backs to 2 years ago when Stegall burned him for 4 td's in a game vs BC.

Don’t worry, if he doesn’t do it, Gordon will.

Hope being the key word there. It's like riding a bicycle, isn't it?

On my way to IWS.

Enjoy the game everyone. Here's to Grey Cup 2008!

Oskee Wee Wee!

A tip of the hat to BobYoungFan for another excellent game day thread!

While it may take new Ticat quarterback Casey Printers a game or two to readjust to the CFL game, one expects that his high level of athleticism will still generate some exciting Ticat offensive plays tonight.

On the defensive side of the ball, it will be interesting to see whether new Ticat defensive end Charlton Keith can add some pressure on Bomber quarterback Kevin Glenn. Keith had a reputation as a quick pass rush specialist in his college career thus the pace of the CFL game and the one yard space at the line of scrimmage might be to his benefit.

Good luck to the entire Ticat team tonight!

I’m scared.

Thanks. I always do appreciate compliments about the way I start off these threads.

And your post was a good one. What you said about what we hope or expect to see from Printers said it all, I'd say. It'll be good to have a talented quarterback at the helm, even if he might be in the middle of that crash course titled "Ticat Offense 101."

And it was good to hear what you said about Keith. We have been looking for a starting DE for quite some time. Although Taaffe said in the press conference that Jackson got moved back to LB becaase of the Barrenechea-Nedd trade.

As the final seconds this rather one-sided Calgary-Saskatchewan game tick away, the kickoff is coming up very soon. Hope at least a few members of the usual crowd will join me here.

It's about game time
The Casey Printers era is here

Nice work on the thread
Anyone else having trouble getting CHML to load on the internet?

There will be an interesting poll on TSN.ca about Printers and the Ticats.

And anyone want to predict the first play called with Printers quarterbacking? I'll go with handoff to Davis.

And where's the red carpet the was to be rolled out for him?

Game on!

Winnipeg's Albert Johnson takes it to Winnipeg 35.

Another "Usual Suspect" lining up to the Board...

Tonight will be a bit of a "milestone" game to watch closely, as has been pointed out.

With Printers in, we will see a very different quarterbacking style, that we can understand will "grow" as he gets further into the playbook and gains "rapport" with various players. With Armstead and Lumsden "out" if this is in fact the case, that side of the game will only improve, as the full team gets to play. On the other hand, we are up against a ferocious defensive team...

What change will we see in the Defense for Hamilton? A rush DE to balance with our one ended D Line? A couple "anchor" type players fresh to the D backfield

Will we have the coaching scandal on the D tonight? Will we get calls going in correctly each play?

Win, lose or draw, it will be interesting!

wow the d held on the first series

OK Bombers are punting. Up next, Mr. Printers!!!!!

CHML worked for me. Keep trying to connect if that's how you are going to follow game.

Winnpieg drive stalled after they gain 12 yards on it. I eagerly anticipate seeing Printers take the field and hearing the IWS crowd welcome him onto the field.

I’m surprised it’s not a sellout

At 19:14 EDT September 15th 2007, the Casey Printers era officially begins.
