Yeah this is the second year in a row a player prominent in off-season community events has been released... 'Nick's Kicks for Kids'... 'Sandro's Kicks for Kids'... Will we see 'Justin's Kicks for Kids' next year before turfing him?
I know he had an off year but unless there's something along the lines of a nagging injury that the team knows about and we don't, this is pretty classless.
i’d love to see KP or O’neil Wilson brought in.Just for depth if nothing else, but think if we started KP AND Stala and both had 1,000 yard seasons. How sexy would that be.
all i have to say is good riddance, he wasted our time with his arrogant attitude, with no results and still had the you know whats to say he had a good season
excited for Justin Medlock to become starting kicker in the hammer (im guessing he will win the kicking battle in TC)
No question Medlock is a better kicker.
My Argos should never have let him go.
Based on last year I was surprised Sandro was not released right after the team picked up Medlock.
There isn’t a poster on this thread that can honestly say they weren’t excited when we signed Sandro.
Arrogant or not, he was right at the time. Statistically he was the best kicker in the CFL. I remember quite a few boots he made with the Stamps at home that sunk our ship, as well as just about every other team in our beloved league.
What scares me most is that after he missed that 17 yarder last year in the EDSF, he came out before the second half and was hitting consistently from 50-60 yards out. The guy can kick the ball.
So I guess to wrap it up, I’d like to say thanks Sandro, for representing yourself, my Team, our Country, and Our League with honour and grace. Having met you personally I can say you are a gentleman and a scholar. When you choose your HOF Jersey pick the Red Team. I hated you most there. I remember years where you carried them, the way Ozzie carried us.
First, I'd like to wish DeAngelis and Hargrave all the best in the future.
I wondered if DeAngelis being cut meant that Aaron Ifield would be on the way in. But according to Drew's latest blog post, that won't be the case: http://scratchingpost.thespec.com/2011/ ... n-cfl.html
So anyway, it looks like we're going with an import P/K this year. And I don't think Wilbur will be around for much longer, as he was just brought in because neither DeAngelis nor Palardy could punt well.
Will Sandro play for another team in this league this year? One team that might consider picking him up may be BC. Hugh O'Neill is more of a punting specialist now, according to this article: http://www.bclions.com/article/draft-pr ... eill_81181. So O'Neill and Sandro could complement each other well. And the Lions will almost certainly play at IWS only once this year.
I disagree. If Wally had had any misgivings about McCallum and O’Neill he wouldn’t have traded Whyte to Montreal. Don’t forget McCallum was the Lions MOP last season.
Edmonton already has 3 kickers who punt and placekick on their roster - two of whom are NIs. For the Riders, they have Johnson who does both and they drafted a kicker (Milo) in the 4th round of this year’s draft. I don’t think they would do anything until they know if Congi can go or not but they may give Milo a shot or just go with Johnson.
I wasn’t a fan of bringing him here especially at the expense of Setta. I am not thrilled by this because (as usual) I hate cuts. I know these guys are people and I hate to see a guy out of a job especially when he really wanted to play here, but I have never been a fan of having 2 guys to do what should be 1 job. I wish Sandro all the best and actually do find it a little crappy that he did quite a bit of off-season “work” and appearances and he gets cut like this, but I’ve also learned not to get too attached to players around here.
I thank Sandro for what he did for the community while he was here and I don’t doubt he gave his best. Good luck to him.
It was so overwhelmingly obvious that Coach MB had no faith in Sandro. He would never send in Sandro to attempt anything beyond 40 yards. I can recall sensing and feeling the negativity surrounding the kicking game while I was watching the games. It made the whole game feel nervous. I never had that feeling with Nick Setta. I'm actually quite puzzled as to why Setta hasn't been picked up by any team yet. Are all of the team rosters (in any league) THAT full that there's no room for a guy like Setta? :?
Read the 5th thread in this!!!
“Sandro was one of my top 5 players on this team last year, not nessescary because of his preformance, but because he always took the time to chat with me, on and off the field!
This was a blow to me personally, I always said every Pro has a bad season, its a SHAME this club didnt give him a chance to redeam himself!
I will miss the talks we had Sandro, take care and we will stay in touch”!GO CATS GO!!!
