HAMILTON — It’s been a long time coming for a Hamilton Tiger-Cats win over the Toronto Argonauts. Not having gotten one over their rivals from up the road since Week 10 of the 2022 season, the Black and Gold recorded their first victory of the season coming out of their bye week with a 27-24 result at Tim Hortons Field on Saturday night.
It is disingenuous to discuss this game without mentioning the Accidental Pass Interference call on the second to last play of the game. To acknowledge that the play was ‘accidental’ then to penalize Hamilton for it is just ridiculous. I have been a supporter and promoter of this league for over 40 years but had that moronic penalty cost Hamilton the game I would cease to do so. It’s bad enough many minutes were wasted in a review for illegal down field blocking. It’s bad enough that a team can score a point for a missed chip shot field goal. This level of stupidity should not be allowed. The league has many interesting facets but this detracts from its credibility.
Also, to gloss over it, both here and on TSN this morning, like the league cannot withstand the scrutiny, is simply childish.
I agree that there were a couple of really bad or missed calls in the game - Blaktyger mentioned one of them - he was right! The other was the missed offensive pass interference call, on the last Argo TD - the Argo pass receiver pushed off the Hamilton defender - and no call!??
The caliber of play in the CFL is really high - it is time for the officiating to match the play.
The league needs officials who work full-time at it. Spend the week looking at film analyzing calls to make themselves better
Should not be a part-time position. It is a professional league, not high school or college. As usual with the CFL, money is likely the issue.
( I guess if I were a player, i would be fined for this post).
OK - the lack of money is probably the issue behind the lackluster performance of CFL refereeing. Until that matter is resolved (if ever), then this is where the Command Centre should come into play. Not on all calls, but on those that could change the outcome of the game. - they do have the benefit of video replays. I watched that “accidental interference” call several times. Daniels did a great job in faking his fall - upon replay you can see that Peters’ feet didn’t even touch his - it was Peters who fell over his own feet and Daniels went on to make it look good.! That call could have cost the Cats that game - it should have been automatically reviewed by Command Centre.
