"The Ticats have 18 players currently on the roster who are in the final year of their contracts. They include starting quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, all-star Canadian defensive tackle Ted Laurent, linebacker Larry Dean, as well as top receivers Luke Tasker, Andy Fantuz and Brandon Banks. Nine of the players on the list started last Friday’s loss to the Calgary Stampeders and eleven are nationals, including three of the team’s eight Canadian starters: Laurent, Fantuz and Justin Capicciotti. Other key contributors include fullback C.O. Prime, long snapper Aaron Crawford, leading special teams tackler Jay Langa and third-string quarterback Everett Golson."

I’d let Ted Laurent walk. We were fine on the D-Line when he was injured. Like Collaros, Laurent is no longer worth what we are paying him this year, and that cash can be better spend elsewhere (i.e. a few DB’s who can consistently cover)
Hopefully Big Teddy Laurent will be re-signed!
He is still only 29 years old and a Ratio buster
Anchors our D-Line, takes on a double team almost every play.
Opposing O-Lines blocking schemes must game plan around Teddy
IMHO, Every other team in this League would salivate over the thought of getting Ted.
Bring them all back in 2018and compete for positions and depth . In these last 3 games I'd like to see the starters play a half or so and then bring in the depth guys for experience . We should see McGough at D end, Schram, Golding, Lussier. Vaughn, Okafor, and Erlington ( recent draft picks ).
We are slowly building up our Canadian depthand young guys need to play to show that they belong here next year . We will probably be drafting in the 2nd spot in 2018, so we can add even more good young Canadian talent .
1960 was a rebuild year but we added so much talent that year, even though we didn't make the playoffs . We made the Grey Cup six of the following 7 years .
History sometimes repeats itself . I got a good feeling about next year !
I like Laurent, but when it comes to free agency, I think the best mantra to follow is "What would Wally Buono do?", and I'm pretty sure Wally would let Laurent walk.
I think Masoli will be back if June Jones is back . If June Jones is back i imagine Collaros will be traded or let go and Manziel will learn from Masoli and see if he overtakes him.
I'd like to see Laurent back but it might be hard to get him if he expects 275 k again. I think Austin loves him and will get him for 200 k since we save money on Collaros salary gone.
We need to sign Dean unless his expectations are unreal . We have a Kavel Connor on the practice roster who has started at lb in the nfl and looks pretty good just in case Dean leaves
We all would love to see Speedy B back but I hope he is not too upset about the pay cut he was asked to take.
Let's hope he likes it here and wants to stay at a reasonable price so he can play receiver and some punt returning
Capicciotti - I think he will be gone as there will another team looking for a national DE. Austin told me directly they need more of a pass rush and he meant 2 imports at DE.
Fantuz- I think he likes it here and i hope he stays for a few more years and hope he stays healthy.
Tasker- He will stay for sure as Austin and Jones like him and he lives in Buffalo so it's nearby. Please don't go to the Argos
Tony Washington - I don't think he will be back because there will not be enough money to go around
Odiase - no
Prime - no
Langa - yes....he makes for a great special team and backup db
Shorthill- yes..good special team --good backup linebacker
All the rest won't be re-signed since we won't have enough money left
I wonder where Tolliver fits into our offence and who he would replace ?
It will be interesting to see what we do at the qb position .
Will be nice to have June Jones from day 1 as well as Umamba and Kanneh and Mathews, Chambers and Fantuz and Banks as a receiver
Is Courtney Stephen a 19th possible TiCats free agent?
This from Drew Edwards' report on the team's final game victory over MTL:
"Tasker, Banks and Masoli are all are set to be free agents in February along with other stalwarts like defensive tackle Ted Laurent and safety Courtney Stephen (who had an interception.) The future of former starting quarterback Zach Collaros is also very much in doubt."
Officially free agents, now, are 9 of the 10 players who finished the season on the Hamilton Practice Roster. INT DE Ryan Mueller was re-signed to the Active Roster the day after the final game.

I hope they can find a way to bring Ted back at a reasonable price.i think he's a great player .careful what you say about Ted's contract there is someone on this site and he knows who he is that will crucify you for that logic
So you want to save by letting guys like Laurent go so that you can have those same management types that forum contributors have complained about, mismanage those same saved ? Is that what you are saying? DB’s? We had near 20 in camp for evaluation this past year! If the TiCat brass couldn’t find a few DB’s who can consistently cover with 20 to look at, no hope !
We should remember that both Chick and Gable are now gone, both were at the top end of pay at their positions.
I does not look as though E. Davis could be back, unless his scratches were injury related.
He also came in at or near the top pay for his position.
If that totals $400K off the books and it cost $200K for their 3 replacements that leaves $200K extra
for re-signing some players
$200K = 10 players get $20K raises
I should also mention we had some pretty expensive "O"linemen on the roster at the beginning of the season in Lewis, Fulton and Swindle also Butler who probably came in at + - $100K each are all gone off the books.
