Ticats trade for Justin Medlock

According to Drew Edwards, we have sent a second round pick and a neg lister to the Esks for K Justin Medlock.

I guess we going get rid of someone soon ..

The Ticats have traded their 2011 second round draft pick and the rights to a neg list player to Edmonton in exchange for an import DB, a third and fifth round pick and import kicker Justin Medlock.

An official announcement is expected shortly.

Medlock can kick and punt and will be competition in training camp for Canadian kicker Sandro DeAngelis, though the Ticats would likely need a Canuck punter to pair with him to make it viable.

More later.

wow wounder neg list players was..
The 2nd round pick is nothing

But to get back a 3rd and 5th a CB and a Kicker

This is a good deal for us

To also get two draft picks in return is big, we definitely won this trade. (Although it makes sense for Edmonton too because they have Schiavone)

But look at this way, we're giving up a canadian and a neg lister for two Canadians and an all-star kicker.

No more punting just because we're outside the 40 yd line, we can let Medlock boot those 50 yarders through the uprights.

I want to know neg list player was ..

who was the DB we got ?

Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has acquired import kicker/punter Justin Medlock, import defensive back Carlos Thomas, a third round selection in the 2011 CFL Canadian Draft and a fifth round selection in the 2011 Draft from the Edmonton Eskimos in exchange for the Ticats second round selection in the 2011 Draft and the rights to a negotiation list player.

Anyone know if they are Edmonton's original draft picks? If so, that third round pick will only come 5 spots after where we would have been picking in the second round.

Info on CB Thomas

One of the fastest players in the state of Georgia, Thomas is also an exceptional baseball player. He had 20 catches for 411 yards and five touchdowns as a junior, and he batted .627 as a sophomore playing second base and center field.

Thomas finished his senior season with over 1000 total years and nine touchdowns receiving and rushing. He had over 30 tackles and four interceptions on defense.

They said that in Video it was 5 spots down.. not a big deal

I think a key to this move is we only move down 5 picks in the draft, and we all know what a crap shoot the draft is, we could very well end up getting the better player. Seems to me Edmonton must know who they want to pick 2nd overall and they must want another guy that they feel wont be available past 13th overall. We only drop 5 picks, we now pick twice in the 3rd round and essentially get our 4th round pick back that we traded away to the argos (its actually a 5th round but its early and by then, 4th and 5th rounders aren't as clear.) Not to mention we get a kicker thats proven he can kick the long ball? Lets just hope he doesn't catch Sandroitis at Ivor Wynne!

PS: Wow, Calgary could make a move before the draft or make a splash in Canadian talent...they pick 6th, 9th, 11th and 14th.

Who did we give up on the neg list ??/

Edmonton wanted them pretty Bad to give up what they Did

or who knows, maybe the have an eye on someone they feel they can get with the 5th pick and will move the 2nd over all pick. Regardless....it will be interesting to see how this plays out...I just have a hard time putting much stock in a neg list player...I cant recall a neg list player being required in a trade and ever really making an impact I could be wrong though....we will see how mace does in Calgary this year.

we gave up the rights to non-import defensive back Dalin Tollestrup (Brigham Young University)

Edmonton Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says, "It's never easy trading an elite player like Justin Medlock, but by adding Louie Sakoda, we felt justified in making this deal and moving up five valuable spots in the upcoming CFL draft. Combine that with gaining the future rights to Alberta native Dalin Tollestrup for a fifth rounder and Carlos Thomas and we feel our club has taken more important steps in upgrading our Canadian nucleus. We'll have to wait on Dalin a couple of years, but believe he’ll be well worth it.?

a Non import Canadian DB Tillman always like Non Imports ..
so in a nutsheell we trade Two Canadians for two Americans and Two Canadians

Tom: Exactly what I was thinking. I never thought they would get rid of Medlock.
Will we use Sandro and Medlock?

Sandro will be cut

Very good deal for us I think. Congratulations, Obie.
