TiCats sign new WR

We got ourselves our own flyin Hawaiian!

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats Football Club announced today the team has signed international wide receiver Kealoha Pilares (KAY-ah-low-hah pih-LAHR-us).

Pilares, 27, was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round, 132nd overall, in the 2011 National Football League Draft. From 2011 to 2012, the 5-11, 200-pound wide receiver appeared in 20 games with the Panthers, posting two receptions for 42 yards and one receiving touchdown. He also recorded one carry for 17 rushing yards and had 806 yards on 32 kick returns (25.2 average), including a franchise record 101-yard kick return for a touchdown against the Detroit Lions on November 20, 2011. Pilares missed the 2013 NFL season due to injury, attended Carolina’s training camp in 2014 and was released on August 25.

The native of Honolulu, Hawaii, suited up in 47 games at the University of Hawaii from 2007 to 2010, registering 209 receptions for 2,491 yards and 22 touchdowns. Pilares added 125 rushing attempts for 701 yards and eight touchdowns, while also accumulating 156 kick return yards on seven attempts (22.3 average). During his senior year in 2010, he was named to the second-team all-WAC, ranked seventh nationally with 100.5 receiving yards per game and 13th in receptions per game at 6.8, was named to the ESPN CoSIDA Academic All-America first team, and finished with 1,306 receiving yards which was the fifth highest single-season total in school history.

Sounds as though he is the multi talented kinda guy that Austin likes , he can return punts , be a receiver or be a running back if necessary. I wonder which player(s) is /are on the bubble if this guy works out .

Collaros to Pilares. Nice ring to it.

So we now have our own "Flyin' Hawaiian"!
Does sound like an interesting prospect though so we'll see if he works out. The receiving corps is already pretty deep but never hurts to keep guys checking out.

With the roster moves this week, what happened to Ron Omara?
He was 1 of 10 on the PR. Then Gainey, Molls and Collins were activated and replaced on the PR by newcomers Wingo, Chapman and Menseh. Now, Omara's name is gone from the PR, replaced there by Pilares, but he's not listed as active or injured.

Might have just gotten lost in the shuffle. I'm sure he'll be found as he may well need to play or back up on Monday with Archambault out.

According to the transaction page at CFL.ca O'Mara has been added to the active roster as of today along with Washington off of the 6-game. The "beard" on the other hand has been placed on the 1 game. It looks like Medlock will handle all the kicking duties on Monday.

Looked at the stats after last week's game and both O'Neill and Medlock out-punted Bede. Medlock's lone punt was 49 yds and O'Neill averaged 46 yds on his 2 punts. Bede's average was 34 on 3 tries - longest was 44.
Of course Waters will be kicking for the blue guys on Monday and he has looked good since returning from injury.

None of Bede's punts was deflected, resulting in an 18 yard punt. The other three were 44, 40, and 47 yards. Pretty much on par with ours.
