The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed American kicker Kenny Allen to replace the injured Sergio Castillo, who was placed on the six-game injured list on Monday. And Canadian Brett Lauther, who kicked for the team in 2013 and 2014, is in town as well.
In other practice news, centre Mike Filer, who suffered a foot injury against Winnipeg, was absent on Monday as was defensive back / linebacker Abdul Kanneh. Brandon Revenberg took the reps at centre with the first team with Landon Rice sliding in at left guard.
Practice update: new Ticats kicker has perfect day
Kenny Allen, who was signed on Monday to replace the injured Sergio Castillo, went seven-for-seven on field goals during the special teams session at practice on Tuesday. Working with snapper Aaron Crawford and holder Luke Tasker, Allen hit a 32 yards extra point from the centre of the field, then hit from 36, 40, 43, 46 and 48 yards while more-or-less alternating between the right and left hash. He finished the session with a 50 yarder from the centre of the field that would have been good from at least 55 yards out.
As for other practice news, it appears the Ticats are getting hit by the flu bug. A day after Abdul Kanneh missed practice due to illness, receiver Brandon Banks is out with similar symptoms. Kanneh was back on the field today, as was offensive lineman Mike Filer (who is dealing with a lower body issue) though both seemed at least somewhat limited.
Now if we can see how he does with rain and wind.....that’ll be a true measure at THF. All in all, very encouraging since he said he was primarily a punter.
