In another post, I said

Wally sure ain't gonna do it

by that I meant.. to allow his D.C to make
a lateral move to another CFL D.C. job
with a young guy like Benevides who Wally helped develop to reach the D.C job one year ago.
I also said
He may be a Toronto boy but he lives with his wife and family year-round in B.C., too.
Maybe that and the bond Obie has with Wally will factor into a decision to allow us to get him.

Ron ,
For Marcel even to talk to him without the BC lions Permission is Tampering .
so we must have got Permission for us to talk to him

There should be something in Benevides's contract that allows such a move with the Lions' permission. Ordinarily one would have to be promoted in some way, so perhaps an assistant head coach position is the sweetener to Mike's current responsibilities.

Maybe there is a quid pro quo we are not aware of at play here (trade or other understanding). We shall see. e would be a solid hire if willing and available.

Oski Wee Wee,

I’ve said it in other threads and I think it bears repeating…why is Benevides suddenly such a hot commodity?

He was never rumoured for a HC position until this offseason…now all of a sudden he made the short list in Edmonton, and is rumoured to be the frontrunner for the blue team. Why?

Last season was his FIRST as a coordinator, and was BC’s defence any better than it had been under Ritchie? No, in fact there was a slight decline I should think.

So why is this guy suddenly getting all this attention??

Hi MadJack. You make some very good points about the sudden rise of Benevides as a HC candidate. I read an article by Marty York that stated Benevides starts his workday at 0300hrs & ends it at 1900hrs. That shows he has an incredible work ethic.

His situation reminds me of another coach the Argos took a chance on back in 1982. Coming off a terrible 1981 campaign, the late Ralph Sazio hired a defensive assistant from the perenially weak Ottawa squad. His name? Bob O'Billovich...

I have said it in other threads and will say it again...

Anyone... ANYONE!@#@!@@@ is an upgrade over Creehan. My 4 year old niece even asked me once why the other team can move the ball so much on Hamilton. Even she.. a 4yo little girl can tell crappy D when she sees it. She could tell they needed to make an adjustment which is something Creehan could not do. Maybe the Cats could give her the job.

I would say that as long as the new DC has eyes that work we will have a better D than last season

Choices are running out. Creehan has gone (with more than a little encouragement to look around), Richie Hall is gone.

There aren't a whole lot of coaches with significant CFL experience as DC who are available to come to Hamilton, unless they are a position coach getting a promotion to a DC.

I think all the Ticat organization from Bob Young down want this settled ASAP, but also want appropriate due diligence to ensure we are getting the best man (or woman) for the job.

What about Charlie Taafe for Ti-Cats DC or Greg Marshall?

Which one?

While I agree that a change is needed , if you dont have Cameron Wake or somebody of that ilk , you wont get any pressure on the QB and I dont care who the coach is , NO PRESSURE , NO WINS !!!!
