HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced on Tuesday that Hamilton native Brent Monson has been named the football club’s new defensive coordinator.
I thought that Monson signed with the Argos as Defensive Coordinator a few weeks ago. Then I saw on here that he was signed with the Ticats. Finally I checked out 3down and this was identified,
“Monson had agreed to become defensive coordinator with the Toronto Argonauts but ran into a contractual snag, leaving Scott Milanovich and the rival Ticats to take advantage.”
What a steal the Ticats got from their rivals up the road. Way to go Milanovich !
Yes, it was a steal. Maybe the Cats can build something off Argo free agent signings. So far it hasn’t worked. What Argos are they going to sign this year? I hear they might be going after QB Cameron Dukes.
Peters Hendrix and Barlow had pretty good stats in 2024. Even better next year with a good DC for a full season. As a bonus, Argo players come to Hamilton’s first - class facilities, and also experience an excited community fan base that they dont get in Toronto, even when the Argos win championships.
Took a reread of the original release and Calgary “parted ways” with the coaches. So someone missed a basic simple thing in Toronto in not calling Calgary to find out if he had an existing contract with them.
Because under CFL rules talking to Monson while he was under contract would be tampering if they didn’t have permission.
I thought it was odd when Kilam said they had to clear his applying with Edmonton with Calgary but it wasn’t anyhting until I read this…
That is really strange since the Stamps said they wouldn’t be returning to the Calgary coaching staff. Does that not mean the Stamps have cancelled their contracts?
I guess until the contract naturally expires (like around training week) they still belong to Calgary. Technicality I guess.
I’m guessing exactly that. I got the impression they were released as well. Nobody writing the story bothered to find out if they were under contract still.
I will say, it was a classy way to do it though. Give them a chance to find a new gig while still getting paid. Good on the Stamps organization.
