CHCH just announced that the Ticats/Bob Young have pledged 10m towards the new stadium. If true, great news.
Here's a link to the Pan-Am Stadium Report going to council next week.http://hamilton.ca/NR/rdonlyres/18CCE1E ... 09006j.pdf
10 million over 10 years...
Drew quotes what he considers the most relevant section Ticat-wise here: http://scratchingpost.thespec.com/2010/ ... adium.html
Why is the new stadium only being built with 25,000 seats?
Hey, Thanks for posting that  Sums it up quite nicely.
I think the 25,000 figure is a minimum, BUT the new stadium will be easily expanded.
IMO, I think that it has to do with a couple of things...Mostly, the Montreal model has used a similar capacity stadium for years now and turned the Als games into a very hot ticket and always a sellout. Then there is also the obvious...Other than in the opening game and on LD, the Cats have not had 25,000 fans in the seats...As we all saw last night, it looks quite embarrassing to both us and the rest of the league to have so many empty seats.
Based on comments made by Bob and others, one of the reasons they want the new stadium to have easy highway access and parking is to bring new fans in from neighbouring communities. Plus a new stadium will have the novelty feature for a few years which hopefully causes some of the new fans to stick long term.
Ticket prices in Montreal are higher than here and availability is low.
Perhaps the idea is to build a 25K stadium now and add 10K if and when financially viable.
