HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced a new contract structure for American quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell on Friday. The deal keeps Mitchell under contract for the next two seasons (2024 and 2025).
Mitchell took a big hit in wages to stay with the Cats. Last year was really a disappointment to Cat Fans but maybe Bo will stay healthy and give them a much better improved performance. Good luck Bo Levi !
I have always been a loyal Bo Levi Mitchell supporter. The fact that he was willing to adjust his 2 year contract to remain a Hamilton Tiger Cat says 2 Things-He is desperate to continue his “11 year career” or their was Zero interest from the other “8 CFL” teams.
Go ahead BLM prove all your “Doubters” wrong and stay with a team that "Did not play you in the 2023 Eastern Final
I’m sorry, I have nothing against Bo, but this is a mistake on the part of the Ti-Cats - if, in fact, it means Bo stays as the starting QB. If he’s mostly backup, or better yet, informal offensive coordinator or quarterback coach, fine. But we should have learned something from last year. Bo is past his best-before date; he’s injury prone and good, but not stellar.
We really need to develop the other QBs, particularly Shiltz and Powell. Made a huge mistake getting rid of Dane Evans.
Looking forward to another lacklustre year in Hamilton.
I am not surprised that Bo Levi Mitchell agreed to a salary reduction, but quite surprised in the reduction amount; depending on who you read, the reduction could be in the vicinity of $295,000, excluding incentives that could amount to $87,000.
He was set to make $522,000; apparently, his base salary will be $225,000. When you read the Tiger Cats statement saying, "we believe that he can play at a championship level ', yet they pay him $225,000. To me, they don’t have much confidence in him and the same with many CFL fans.
I’m going to guess he either won’t be in as many games, or else, will have less playing time and will be rotated within the games with Shiltz and Powell (the latter happened upon his return from injury). That would make more sense.
I believe Hamilton did the right thing - I have a great respect for their organization. It would have been easy to drop Bow, but instead kept him to show that he still has talent to help the team and to teach a lot to the younger QBs - this could be a move that pays big for The Cats in the future. Plus, Mitchell still can play the game very well, “IF” he can stay away from injuries. I would love to seem him at his best helping the Tigers make the playoffs and then to win the Grey Cup - hey, why not?
I see it as Bo’s beginning move to a coaching role, likely starting with the Cats. He can then transition to the Toronto-based TSN panel at his timing. Keeps his family settled in Southern Ontario if he wishes.
Welcome to the forum. McLeod Bethel-Thompson indicated his interest some time ago that he was coming back to the CFL. Multiple teams were interested. I would not be surprised if Hamilton was one of them. Maybe not but the Bo deal comes at a time when the Elks had probably won MBT over.
Regardless, I have a lot of respect for Bo & maybe, like Zach, he isn’t done yet. He’s got a guy in Milanovich who can develop a game plan suited to his strengths. And it gives them another year to develop Powell who showed some promise.
Must be fake news, eh. Thought the great one was to have a honoured retirement after a dismal failure last season. This news is not good news for the Tiger-Cats unless they manage a deal to obtain Tre Ford who would love to play for the Tiger-Cats in 2024.
I am somewhat disappointed that the CFL has not recognized the death of the great Tiger Cat running back, Willie Bethea. Bethea lead Hamilton to win 3 Grey Cups during the 60’s and averaged over 5 yards per carry.
