TiCats announce Play Action grassroots initiative

It's been my feeling for some time now that it's necessary to invest more resources into grassroots football if we want to see more Canadians excelling in the CFL, so I was pretty pleased to see this announcement earlier today. Big thumbs up to the TiCats for doing this! Credit also goes to the CFL for providing some of the funding.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have announced the creation of Play Action, a program in partnership with local minor football programs that will see the Ticats provide significant resources towards the development of grassroots football in TigerTown.

As partners in the Play Action program, teams from the Hamilton Minor Football Association, the Hamilton Wentworth Minor Football Association, the Burlington Minor Football Association and the Niagara Regional Minor Football Association will bear the Play Action logo on their jerseys and helmets and receive ample support from the Tiger-Cats, including:

  • Financial Support: The Ticats will provide financial assistance to each minor football association to help offset various costs.
  • Annual Ticats Football Clinic: Minor football players from each association will have the opportunity to improve their skills at a clinic hosted by Tiger-Cats players.
  • Equipment Donation: The Ticats will distribute gently-used practice equipment to help improve the quality of minor football practices.
  • Use of Stadium: Each team associated with the Play Action program will have an opportunity to use the Ticats stadium for a practice or game.
