The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have agreed to terms with running back John White, per sources.
White was released by the Edmonton Eskimos the day before training camps opened.
The 26-year-old is coming off a torn ACL suffered in the second game of the 2017 season after rushing for over 100 yards and one touchdown in Week 1. That made two season-ending injuries for White in the last three years. He tore his Achilles during training camp and missed the entire 2015 campaign.
White had 1,350 yards from scrimmage with 886 on the ground in 2016 – the University of Utah product produces when healthy. In four seasons with the Eskimos, White played in 41 games with 376 carries for 2,110 yards (5.6-yard average) and 12 touchdowns adding 84 catches for 736 yards and four majors.
Need someone, I don't know if it is just me but Green looked slow to me. He played quicker last year. Maybe a nagging injury or a lot of tread burned off the tires. A 30 year old RB is old.
He missed at least half of camp because of the family issue back home, so he's simply not in as good of football shape as he should be. Trust me... he's not slow.
Green - the starter - didn't practice today, and this signing pretty much confirms he won't play this week. I would expect White to start in Calgary. RB isn't too hard to plug and play - at least not compared to QB or receiver.
Coach Jones, in his June 12th session with the media said Green is having a hand looked at by a specialist after "popping something" in the game at MTL.
While on the subject of the Coach's media sessions, just like early last season, somebody needs to get a microphone set up so viewers can hear what questions are being asked. Please. Thank you.
I think some of your recurring taunts have a finite life span.
Signing a veteran player with two practices left before the opening game of the season does not exactly refute the original contention that management was not active enough in the off-season.
He may be a starter this week. As another poster indicated RB in the CFL is as plug and play as you can get. If Green is injured and White comes in and has a couple good practices I would expect him to be our starter come Saturday in Calgary.
