Ticat Offence and Defence- Yards Per Game Stats 2004 to 2006

As the Ticats move toward the completion of the 2006 football season, here is a comparison of the team's offensive and defensive average yard per game stats from 2004 through 2006:

Offence

Average Yards Rushing Per Game
2004 105.9 (4th)
2005 85.7 (7th)
2006 79.0 (8th)

Average Yards Passing Per Game
2004 306.4 (4th)
2005 249.1 (7th)
2006 224.4 (8th)

The declining rushing and passing yardage of the Ticat offence per game obviously needs to be remedied in 2007. A new offensive coordinator with previous success in the CFL should help. Ticat GM Marcel Desjardins is also undoubtedly reviewing the on-field personnel to identify positions that need to be upgraded.

Defence

Average Yards Rushing Per Game
2004 96.4 (4th)
2005 114.7 (7th)
2006 133.7 (8th)

Average Yards Passing Per Game
2004 287.2 (5th)
2005 283.0 (5th)
2006 257.6 (5th)

The increasing rushing yardage yielded by the Ticat offence per game is a problem that needs to be improved in 2007. On the other hand, the passing yardage allowed per game has slightly decreased each year and has ranked 5th in the league in all three seasons. It is a tough call as to whether a new defensive coordinator is needed here or whether improving the personnel at some of the defensive line and linebacking positions would be enough to remedy the situation. Again, Ticat GM Marcel Desjardins is also undoubtedly reviewing the on-field personnel to identify positions that need to be upgraded.
