Thoughs on CFL

Every website forum has their own local "village idiot" and perhaps this fellow is ours. The best way to deal with them is let them post their rants and then ignore them. Poking fun at their less than developed social or communication skills is probably not the best way to deal with them. It is a little mean spirited of us to take delight in other people's short comings.

…well, the internet was never known for its kindness…I figure if you’re smart enough to get a password and remember how to use it then you should be smart enough to backup a ridiculous posting…or man enough to not get hurt feelings from replies…unless the poster is obviously young or mentally challenged…duckmonk is neither in this case…and heck, some of our 14 to 16 year old posters are better arguers then fans twice their age…

Website forums can be an obsession with some people, removing one from normal life. I see that ‘RedandWhite’ has been a member for just over 2 years now and is just 2 posts shy of 6,000 which is nearly 8 posts a day. DuckMonk has been a member for just a couple of months less and yet his number of posts is less than 400. So tell me, who has the problem here?

....problem?...what problem....a) I'm a fan, b) I have a gloriously lazy job that pays me too much, c) I volunteered to use both those to help moderate the site.....not sure why you felt the need to take it personal, like I care though....

...(BTW, 'member' over three years now, in case you're counting, there was a CFL.ca before this version of it)...

and heck, some of our 14 to 16 year old posters are better arguers then fans twice their age...

R&W, some are even better debaters than they are arguers!

....yes, proper wording there Earl, that is what I meant, debaters....smart cookies those youngun's....but I better watch out now, another post and Oxbow will be on my case about using up bandwidth and how my personal life MUST be in absolute shambles because ALL I have is this website....oh woe is me...

Maybe he types very very slowly!

Some debaters are masters! :stuck_out_tongue:

....zing....

Or some of us are retired, and goof off when the wife is away working! 8) 8) 8) 8)

Not sure if anyone thought of this before, but what about Hull as a potential expansion site??? We know how francophones love football and with 1.4 million francophones in Ontario, (largley in the Ottawa area!), and the natural rivalry with Montreal & Quebec City, this franchise would be money in the banque! No stadium? No problem! Neither does Quebec or Halifax, and they are considered as serious expansion sites. Just build it and they will come! Federal, Provincial, Regional and Civic politicians would be falling all over themselves to help fund this new stadium in the Ottawa capital region.

Perhaps Hull could host the Francophonie Games, a perfect excuse to build a 30,000 seat stade!!:cowboy:

Considering that Hull is a stone's throw from Ottawa(literally) Either city would suffer the same fate.....good or bad!

Isn't Hull called Gatineau now?

Actually no, Hull is a good idea.

Because one of the major issues in Ottawa is politics(municipal)(stadium stuff attached to that)

Ottawa does need a new stadium, the reasons are the concessions deal that is locked in for another 10 years from what I have been told and the city of ottawa not allowing a CFL team to get a good deal(the Renegade deal was 30% more then the current Argos rent deal at the Rogerscentre, AND THE ARGOS GOT MORE CONTROL FROM CONCESSIONS/PARKING/LUXURY BOXES!)

So if a new stadium is basicly needed(unless the city of ottawa can scrap the aramark Deal and give a CFL team full stadium usage May to November, GG's still get full saturday usage)

There is no issue if December to April a bubble is put on the field and Soccer is played there, w/e. but during football Season the team controls the field all time except for GG's CIS games and possibly Junior/highschool football.

This allows for the team to put on concerts with no penalties, extra rent costs or need to arrange schedualing with someone else.

Another reason is a new stadium is needed is to expand revenue streams, building a CFL/team store, Restaraunt. to cover any losses during a bad season for the team and try to get the team out there instead of disappearing for 6 months in the off-season.

-32% of Ottawa(going by Wiki) speak french first.
If someone approached the Gatineau municipality Gov about building a stadium and locating it in that part of the city the benefits could be very nice, different taxes, drinking age.

I'm not sure if Quebec has the added provincial tax sports teams pay that ontario has, but they could try and make a deal with the province of quebec or city of Gatineau to get it lowered atleast for a few years.

Also looking at what the province of quebecs deal idea on sports right now, it is much more favorable then Ontario(atleast what Ottawa is doing)

It might only be 5-10 KM, but those 5-10 KM could be all it takes to get a stadium, get some breaks(taxes or Lease/Rent)

and Frank Clair is an old stadium that, while a CFL team could survive there it would be much easier/viable in a new stadium with enough luxury boxes(40+)

The Gatineau Garottes!

Sounds like a Hull of an idea.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Next time....
Try harder!

Here’s a thought from an American living in Toronto:

"I am American and I moved to Toronto about 6 years ago, from Florida.

I have found a real love for the CFL and for the Argos.

Personally I think that NFL is way overhyped and when you watch it you think to yourself “That’s IT???”. Always expecting more and waiting for something spectacular, which never actually happens.

THe CFL is exciting football with exciting players.

In Toronto, there seems to be a lot of NFL fans. Their rationale is “Toronto is a world-class city, we deserve a world-class league.”

The fact is that the American media has over-hyped the NFL so much that even now Canadians think its a world-class league. They’re just wannabees who want to have something in common with Americans. Its ‘cool’ in Toronto to talk about the NFL, because there are no domestic teams and it shows that you’re “in” if you are knowledgable about the NFL. They wear NFL jerseys over CFL jerseys to show off.

I say F U to those people, the CFL is a better league, with different, more exciting kinds of players. Too bad some Canadians are too stuck up to realize it.

It puzzles me that Canadians would be so un-patriotic, as well. THe CFL is the best professional league you have, and a damn good one.

If I were Canadian, I would much rather watch Toronto vs. Montreal, then Houston vs. Arizona, for example. And even though I am not, I still do prefer the former.

Maybe a Canadian NFL fan would like to fill me in?"

For an American, you're a fine Canadian Earl 8)

I think you will find that this is mostly a Toronto-only phenomenon. Some in that city have a terrible inferiority complex and feel that in order to be taken seriously they must embrace American culture.

That's OK. Most of us (including those like me who lived there for many years and moved away) just laugh at them as dupes, but still love them as compatriots anyway, just misguided ones.

For an American, you're a fine Canadian Earl

I'll just pretend you didn't say that rpaege.
