This years CFL draft

It works like the NFL draft, weakest teams draft first and so on up to the Grey Cup Champions. Some teams trade their picks, as was the case this year with Hamilton (the worst team) trading the first overall pick and a couple of other players to the Grey Cup champions Edmonton for QB Jason Maas.
This draft is only for Canadian players that have completed 4 years of university or college…and as many going to the US colleges are red-shirted their first year they are eligible to be drafted after their Junior year but which is really their fourth year.
The US players are not drafted per se but each team has a negoiation list of between 30 and 40 players that the teams have exclusive rights to. This list is kept secret from the public (its a long story) with only the nine teams and the CFL head office knowing what players are on these lists. Its not really a draft as players can be dropped and others added at any time. Example: if a team sees a college freshman QB who looks to have CFL type potential they will add him to their list and keep him there until he graduates and possibility goes through couple of NFL camps before he becomes available. Sometimes they may see someone they like better so they have to drop a player from their list before adding a new name because of the limit which I think is around 35.
Hope that helps.

THANKS!

Helps a lot. Makes sence…

the whole negotiations list thing sounds like it was made simply to keep specultation up, and sell newspapers…

cheers.
