Thigh pads

Just curious but does anybody know why some players don't wear thigh pads?
I suppose comfort?? But I should think it would really hurt to get nailed in the upper leg.
Any ideas??

I've heard the NFL is really going to be cracking down on players not wearing pads.

Ok, here is a link to what I heard on the radio the other day. Seems reasonable to me.
