I like it. Perhaps a change to the traditional Black and Gold with a nice kitten on the top.
I love the dentures.
Going back to the topic, one that Coach O got away with but drove me nuts in real time happened at the end of the home game versus Ottawa July 16, 2022.
Trailing by 5 very late in the game, Tim White scores a major on a reception from Dane Evans. The 6 points for the TD put the Cats up by 1 with 19 seconds left in the 4th quarter.
The awful decision followed our TD. Coach O elected to kick the covert which was successful and put the Ticats up by 2.
Ottawa returned the ball into decent field position and quickly moved to the Ticats side of the 55 to set up a FG attempt to win the game as time ran out.
Fortunately Lewis Ward’s 54 yarder came up a couple feet short, but the miss doesn’t change the fact that the Cats should have gone for 2 after the TD to make it a 3 point lead and prevent the FG from beating us.
His explanation was terrible. He said he didn’t want a single to tie us. But instead he was allowing a made FG to actually beat us.
I just can’t take any real interest in what he says through the media. Above anything else, the one thing he has shown me is tremendous consistency in offering nothing but meaningless cliches and empty answers.
I’m not in the O is “untruthful” camp, not one bit. I’m in the O is hyper sensitive about every spoken word and treats everything that happens with the team like it needs to be guarded like the Caramilk secret.
I have no clue why he’s this way. Lots of coaches do this, but O may be the king of it. Every player that speaks to the media also offers the same next man up, it’s the same for both teams, we just need to execute, etc etc. They’re clearly scripted.
With all that in mind, his choices after that Ottawa game last season were to say I goofed, or come up with a rationale why he didn’t go for two. He wasn’t going to say he goofed and I can’t think of any other reason to kick the single point. I’m guessing he can’t either so he went with what he had.
I suspect the truth is he wasn’t looking ahead to the possibilities as the drive unfolded and he made a decision in the moment that he’d like to have had the chance to change as he watched Lewis Ward trot out onto the field.
I’ve yet to hear him admit he’s made a mistake. Never once said he might have handed a situation differently. That’s what rubs me the wrong way about his media interaction.
Do you hear a lot of other coaches admitting mistakes in post-game interviews?
I’ve definitely heard coaches admit they may have done something differently. Yes. I watch alot of NFL and it’s press conferences and coaches do admit mistakes, talk about injuries, etc.
“Dont apologize, dont explain”:
Its easy when all you have to face is one columnist that already sympathizes with you and bluffed your way into multiple job titles making yourself difficult to fire. But presiding over a three year decline in a weak division and now in a GC year where you made monumental decisions that will effect the franchise and the fanbase for years ?
“Dont apologize, dont explain” is a helluva thing to dig your heels in with.
If I wasnt so desensitized to bad football and didnt think Stein was a shockingly over rated coach anyway and no longer care what he does or doesnt say anymore I’d feel insulted and taken for granted.
Imagine him in front of US media either NFL or NCAA? He’d be eaten for lunch.
Maybe NFL coaches make mistakes and CFL coaches don’t since none of yours examples are CFL coaches😝
Stein’s performance in his role with multiple job titles is disgraceful at best and is getting worse as the season wears on. It’s almost getting to the point where it’s becoming Dave Beckman bad. See what “continuity” and “trust the professionals” gets you.
Man…you’ve got a lot of time on your hands to do this research. Try golfing….it’ll use up half a day of video fime.
Just a good memory - it doesnt take much time to make Stein look bad. He does it himself.
It’s easy to find coaches owning up to their mistakes. But not Stein.
Nobody would care what Steinauer said to the Press if the Cats were 8-1 right now.
Because the mistakes he deflects about wouldn’t be happening.
