The Worst In-Game Decisions You Have Witnessed During The Stein Era

I know, I know that there have been a plethora of them but what are some of the worst in-game coaching decisions that you have witnessed in the Stein era. Okay, I’ll start in no particular order. 1. 2021 Grey Cup, nobody mentioning to Tim White to make sure you run the ball out at all costs if it is kicked in the end zone. 2. July 28/23. Running a short yardage play with seconds left in the game on your own 2-yard line when you could have knelt on the 1-yard line and ran out the clock. 3. Aug.17/23. Kicking a field goal with 9 seconds left in the half when you could have easily run two plays and to try and get a touchdown on second down. Mind boggling to think these things have occurred under the coaching of one man and his buddies.

Hated the call last year in Montreal to kick the go ahead FG inside the 5. knowing MTL would get the ball on the 40 only needing a FG. I’d rather leave them on their 1 knowing a stop probably wins you the game.

Same thing happened at home Vs. Tor in 21 when we kicked a FG inside the 5 only to have Boris Bede beat us.

Can we also do worst roster moves. Seperate thread or documented enough already ?

I also think we should have a separate thread of worst explanations to the media.

That’s easy…

Can we include worst food purchases made at the stadium?

How about worst parking spot? The one your gut told you not to take, and when you got back to your car you realized you should have listened.

OK…we need some more details on this one…haha!!

Not everyone will agree, but I think they should have gone for the touchdown on third down in the 21 Grey Cup.
A touchdown would have won them the game.
Which would you take? One shot from the 5, or a mini game against Zach Collaros?
I’d have looked to the Bombers bench and said “Zach, put your helmet away, you’re done for the day”.
I would have made the decision on first down. “We’re going 3 downs to get 5 or 6 yards to win the Grey Cup”. That would have opened up the playbook on second down as well.

It’s been 20+ years since you’ve won. Your at home and 6 yards away.

Go win the damn cup.

Can the be open to all the cfl teams?

EDIT: so sorry about the avatar thing, did this earlier, forgot I still look like this.

I have to agree with you.

When it was 2nd down Deatrick Nichols just barely batted away a near certain touchdown pass from Masoli and gave us a temporary reprieve. Having gotten so close I thought for sure that the Cats would go for it and end the game right there… one way or another. But they didn’t.

Just for argument’s sake I’m going to guess that the odds of scoring a TD on 3rd and goal at that point in the game were better than the odds of outscoring us in the period that would follow.

Taking the field goal and sending the game into overtime was the safest option I guess. If I was in Orlando’s shoes I’d have gone for it but I was just a fan watching from the comfort of my home. I didn’t have my career tied up in that pressure cooking moment.

So many things conspired to hand us the win that day… from the infamous ‘kneel’ to the Hamilton decision in overtime to take the ball and allow us to choose the side that kept the wind at our backs (we couldn’t pass into the wind that day if our lives depended upon it).

Had one link in that chain of events been broken there’s a good chance that we’d have lost. We got lucky.

I think if the 1st down play wasnt blown up (often over looked), the 2nd down play would have been different and they would have gone for it on 3rd down. Ive always hated that 1st down play with Masoli at QB, Banks, White, all of these guys that we could run misdirection/option plays with we decided to stand back and run a shotgun inside draw. I always felt that play cost us our chance to go for it on 3rd down.

I know that all the ladies on the CFL Forums hate to hear this but sir, that avatar makes you look fat.

I was going for mysterious, maybe I missed that look.

Dumbass move by a Bombers player Charles Roberts, missed the team flight (I think) to Montreal, he paid his own way to Montreal plus taxi to the hotel room…Cal Murphy didn’t let him dress and was fined for missing the flight.

We wouldn’t need a thread for this if everyone just executed properly.

No question #1 is having Bo in on that last play, but, i would give special mention to runner-up kneeling points in the Grey Cup. Both are inexcusable.

I love it. Now all we need are some t-shirts and some signs to remind the players with. I wonder if it would as a new team chant?

Why do I picture that shirt on an oversized guy wearing a black hood, holding a rather large axe, and standing beside a tree stump with a wicker basket in front of it?

That guy will likely be seen waiting outside the offices of the Riders and Ti-Cats as soon as the season ends.

Well as long as they keep losing (and there is no reason to think that they won’t) may I suggest this on a t-shirt ? front and back .
