The way too early AMSOIL Power Rankings are here

TORONTO — Here we go again.

CFL.ca’s Power Rankings presented by AMSOIL are as much about the past as they are about the future. When you start ranking rosters without actually having seen them play, you have to take into consideration what each organization has been able to accomplish in the recent past.

I can see arguments for and against this ranking.

Outside of switching BC & Hamilton, it’s essentially a regurgitation of last year’s final standings. Why bring this out now after FA? You could have put this together on Nov 30.:smile:You have the top 2 teams who, almost everybody says, lost the most in FA - one team which got a C for what it did in FA on this site. Followed by 2 top teams who kept most of their FA’s & added a few pieces to likely make them better. And then followed by 3 teams who made the most moves in FA.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. But it’s incredibly difficult to handicap any team at this point in time. :smile:The point is to get people talking, isn’t it? Mission accomplished.

This is as good as any ranking I have seen so far. It’s obviously way too early to tell, as the title says. But over reaching based on a few players signed in free agency to teams that missed the playoffs and have a long way to go isn’t very smart based on history. Anything can still happen so basing it on recent history and putting the teams with the best player personnel departments at the top makes sense to me at this point.

Oh look, it’s last year’s standings, dressed up as this year’s power rankings, with some Rider accessories.

Green IS the color.

What a lazy man’s way of doing things here . Let’s just put the two Grey Cup teams at # 1 and # 2 and then just pull the rest of the teams randomly out of a hat . Finally how did the Anchors wind up playing one more game than everybody else last regular season ? Typical example of the amateurish lack of effort journalism on this site .

You are just upset because Green is ahead of black and gold.

Lazy effort and not worth the read. Seriously I could do better in 10 minutes and I have a job. Mention the the Lanier departure as significant, but they didn’t want him because he is way over priced for little return. Not to mention they added allstar Mike Rose and Ray returns from the NFL. Hey guys the DLine got better. And sorry but for as much as I like Sterns he wasn’t going to be a starter this year anyway as we have way to much depth.
And lets just leave the Argos there cause they won last year. Should mention their departures leave a massive gap with a few castouts to fill their roles…
Seriously do better!

 That’s only because your team’s name got pulled first out of the magic hat .

Magic and being February might be the only reason and time the Riders are placed at third this year.

An even tougher exercise - it might even merit a topic of its own - would be to rank CFL starting QBs at this time.

This would be my ranking:
Collaros
Adams
Kelly
Harris
Mitchell
Rourke
Alexander
Brown
Ford

Love green. I’m doing my part & blending in with my lawn.

Seriously. Mitchell & Harris were All-Stars last year. Collaros managed 17 TD’s, 15 INT’s & 6 of those TD’s came in 1 game. IOW he had all of 11 TD’s over the other 16 games he was in. Not awful - just 50% of the production of the 2nd last team in the CFL. But, hey, he did take his team to the GC & matched his production of the previous 2 years - 0 TD’s passing. One should be rewarded for consistency.

Bang on - go soil yourselves AMSOIL and fix your damn system, System!

Aye, maybe it’s a bit early for that rant, but I agree with others this is just somebody who mailed it in for the day to write some BS and add hardly any value.

If there were no player/coaching changes this offseason these rankings might make sense… But there were, so they don’t.

For what it’s worth this year it is super hard to rank the teams and arguments could be made for just about everyone.

It’s why I haven’t posted my own yet :joy: I’ll cut AMSOIL and the CFL Staff some slack on this one.

You have a point here too.
But nope, we’ve seen AMSOIL at this before,
and we’re not falling for these tricks by those bojacks this time,
so I say it’s better now to err on the side of less mercy.

It’s that time of year.

Nothin’ to see here ma. Just a clipping’ from last November paper and some typos to boot.

Better effort and thought (by everyone who participated) went into the rankings in this thread:
