The smell of another .500 season is upon us!

Will the Cats have yet another average year & why?
Will the Cats enter the playoffs and fail yet again & why?
Will the Cats get the monkey off their back before the pressure to win in a new stadium is upon them?

3 good questions, & waiting to see the commentary from our astute forum fans.

I believe other teams have won the Cup with .500 seasons. We will play post season: all it takes is three focused all out games after 2 Nov. Better to have this lesson now not then.

Bottom line is... once the regular season is over, and you have made the playoffs.... the regular season record goes out the window..

as long as you win the POST season, who the hell cares what record you had in the REGULAR season

And you know what takes the cake , the last coach to go 9-9 got fired ! Marcel Who!!!

I’ll agree with your first statement, other than the fact that what’s “gone out the window” is what determined where the playoff games are played. More often than not, the home teams win. And, believe it or not, one answer to your “who the hell” question is “me.” While it’s not celebrated as is success in the playoffs and Grey Cup, to me finishing a regular season in first place is the greater accomplishment.

Isn’t he the current OC of a 3-13 team?

1 Yes, because we are an average team.
2 I don’t know, but if failure means not winning the Grey Cup, I suspect we will fail, for the same reason
3 Not sure what you mean by this one. If it means more or less the same thing as #2, then the answer is more or less the same. I don’t really know how much greater the pressure to win in a new stadium will be than it was in the old one. That sort of thing didn’t seem to make much difference in Winnipeg.

Despite this, I hope for the best. It springs eternal.

.500 for a new coach, a bunch of new starters, new OC, new DC, etc. is a good season.
You cant hold Austin to the records of the coaches before him, this is what happens when you start over every 3 years.

Hopefully 2-3 years from now we're looking back on this as just the beginning of something special.

Why do fans keep accepting mediocracy?

TOR 2010: 9-9 Easter Final loss
TOR 2011: 6-12 miss playoffs
TOR 2012: 9-9 Greg Cup champion

HAM 2011: 8-10 Eastern Final loss
HAM 2012: 6-12 miss playoffs
HAM 2013: currently 8-8

See a trend here? The Argos also had a bad week 17 loss last year dropping them to 7-9

after a 1-4 start .500 ain't so bad.
We will be getting healthy for the playoffs hopefully and can make a run.

I assume you mean mediocrity. What to you mean by accepting it? How do you define that? We could say we reject it, but what does that accomplish? What would you suggest fans do? Cease to be fans? That’s one option, but I don’t choose to go that route.

As for the team, they have changed GM’s and changed coaches multiple times, changed lots and lots of players, all in the effort to improve. What else do you want them to do?

We’re 8-8, middle of the pack. It’s a relatively young team. We’ll get better, probably not this year, maybe not next year. I want them to get better, and I expect them to keep trying to do that. I see them making that effort. As long as I do, I’ll still be a fan.

100% agree. THe Cats will have a better record than last year even though they lost their best player and got a lot younger almost everywhere. My only real complaint is that their record is as good as it is because Burris has carried them and QB is the one place they haven’t got younger. But that is for the offseason. Odds are against it but even bad as they looked today, they could still win it all. Stranger things have happened in this strange league.

I agree! This is a young team with MANY new players. Last time I checked, which was some time ago, MORE THAN 75% of the defense was new and many of them are rookies; and ALMOST 50% of the offense is new. They have a totally new, complex offensive scheme that takes some time to totally master as well as new defensive schemes (for those who are still here from last season). I’d say that they are doing just fine but we may not see just how good this team can be before next season and beyond. I think the offense will begin to click even better next season and we will see more dominant play in the defense, barring too many changes.
Can they be like the 2012 Argos and win everything - maybe. Is it likely - I won’t bet on it but ANYTHING is possible! :rockin:

Another loss to Montreal next week and there's the strong possibility of no home playoff game.

And a win next week gaurantees a home playoff game!!!

We started 1 and 4,
Now we have gone 7 and 4 in the last 11 games

Last game there was no excuses like injuries, etc. like when Sask. handed it to us on the road in week 4
We played our worst game of the year yesterday.
I fully expect Austin to have this team ready to play and win next game!

There is no doubt, next weeks game is huge.

Record after 8 games...4 wins...4 losses (.500)
Record after 10 games..5 wins...5 losses (.500)
Record after 12 games..6 wins...6 losses (.500)
Record after 14 games..7 wins...7 losses (.500)
Record after 16 games..8 wins...8 losses (.500)
Record after 18 games..? wins.. ? losses (.???)

At the very least,we are the most consistent team in the league this year!!!!  Yup!! can you smell it??? .500 no more ,no less.....smack dab in the middle!!!With this trend don't be surprised with a final total of......9wins..9losses..500
Just in case you didn't realize, the last time this team won double digit games was in 2001(11-7)Hopefully they can win their last 2 this year and finally break the trend and wind up with 10 wins on the season. :cowboy:

I did a little research on the Cats and their .500 record,it’s interesting to note that since winning the Cup in “72” That not including this season, going back 40 years, the Cats have only managed 6 seasons in that span of 10 or more wins on a season, and 11 seasons finished at .500 or one game above it,21 seasons of 10 or more losses, and 2 seasons of single digit wins and losses. So as you can see 10 +win seasons are few and far between for this club, and if the Cats can win their final 2 games this season,it will only mark the 7th time they’ve accomplished it in over 40 years. Here’s the breakdown:

10 + win seasons

81…11-4-1 1rst
89…12-6-0 1rst Grey Cup(lost)(Sask)
92…11-7-0 2nd
98…12-5-1 1rst Grey Cup(lost)(Calg)
99…11-7-0 2nd Grey Cup(won)(Calg)
01…11-7-0 2nd

.500 or 1 gm above

73…7-7-0 4th
76…8-8-0 2nd
80…8-7-1 1rst Grey Cup(lost)(Edm)
82…8-7-1 2nd
85…8-8-0 1rst Grey Cup(lost)(B.C.)
86…9-8-1 2nd Grey Cup(won)(Edm)
88…9-9-0 2nd
00…9-9-2 2nd(2 o.t. losses,counted as 1 pt per loss)
04…9-8-1 3rd
09…9-9-0 2nd
10…9-9-0 2nd

74…7-9-0 2nd
84…6-9-1 2nd Grey Cup(lost)(Wnp)

No sense listing all the 10+ losses seasons, except to say that we’ve had more than half our seasons end up this way in 40 years of football…21 years as opposed to 17 years of .500 or better(best record…“89”-12-6…Worst…“03”-1-17)

In the CFL anything can happen especially in the playoffs, it's one game and a losing team is just as capable as the winning team to turn the tide and become the champion.

I think the Montreal game was a wake up call for the Tiger-Cat team to be prepared for every game and especially down the stretch and towards the playoffs. We have already surpassed the number of wins from last season and made the playoffs this year, unlike last season, now we have to nail down a win Saturday and home field advantage.

The Tiger-Cats are a young team and the youngest in the CFL on average, remember even Montreal with a rookie QB is still a Veteran Team just like most other teams in the CFL. If the Tiger-Cats complete this year at .500 I would say that's a huge victory compared to past years and a win in the playoffs would be even sweeter!!
