THE Rivalry since the 1950 Tigers-Wildcats merger

Thank you for your time putting this thread together, Russ. It’s very refreshing to see positive contributions to this forum rather than the negativity that’s unfortunately been allowed to become common.

Yeomen's work there, Russ. Much appreciated.

Below is the updated history for the Hamilton-Toronto rivalry, including tonight's 36-27 win by Hamilton. The records are good as of the time of posting.

Enjoy!

Oski Wee Wee,

Russ

Inspired by a comment by an Argo booster on the website, I delved into the playoff successes and related record regarding the Hamilton-Toronto rivalry since 1965 (spanning my lifetime to date). I've taken some extra time to compile a snapshot of the teams' respective success in playoffs and head-to-head since the 1950 Tigers-Wildcats merger that established the Tiger-Cats.

REGULAR SEASON @ July 14, 2012
I have added the latest game to the overall total referenced in earlier posts in the thread. Hamilton holds a 123-87-2 all-time regular season record against Toronto.

Regarding Labour Day Classics, Hamilton holds a 29-14-1 all-time record against Toronto since 1948, 27-14-1 since the 1950 merger, including the most recent 28-13 win in this year's game on Sept 6 not referenced in the Labour Day preview article on cfl.ca on Sept.3.

Inspired by a comment by an Argo booster on the website, I delved into the playoff successes and related record regarding the Hamilton-Toronto rivalry since 1965 (spanning my lifetime to date). 3) Grey Cups and Runners-Up Years

Toronto has won 8 Grey Cups since 1950 (1950, 1952, 1983, 1991, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2012) and been runners-up 3 times ( in 1971, 1982, and 1987).

Hamilton has won 8 Grey Cups since 1950 (1953, 1957, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1972, 1986, and 1999) and been runners-up 10 times (1958, 1959, 1960, 1962, 1964, 1980, 1984, 1985, 1989, and 1998).

Oski Wee Wee,

Russ

I never realized that Toronto had a gap of 31 years between championships from 1952 to 1983. 31 years of trying and failing.

:P

If you look at their record from 52-83…more failing than anything else(only 2 cup app. in that span 71 @ 83)ARGO-NOTS !

I realize a Ticats forum is not the most likely place to find takers, but nonetheless here goes. I have just published a book about the 1981-83 Argos, who went from the worst season in team history (2-14 in 1981) to the most exciting year (Run-and-Shoot offence under Mouse Davis) in 1982 to finally ending the 31-year drought in 1983.

Bouncing Back: From National Joke to Grey Cup Champs features detailed looks at a couple of games that would be of interest to some Ticat fans: a 57-13 Hamilton win in 1981 on a night when the Argos almost didn’t get to Ivor Wynne because someone forgot to order buses, and a very detailed review of the 1983 Eastern Final, which I propose is the greatest playoff game ever.

I interviewed dozens of players, coaches and others associated with the Argos and CFL, including former Ticats Al Bruno and Gerald Bess. The book is self-published through Lulu, which was founded by Bob Young and also published the Angelo Mosca-Steve Milton book a couple of year ago.

I hope to be selling it (alongside Steve and Big Ang with their book) at the Thanksgiving Day game in Guelph, but in the meantime the book is available for purchase online through both Lulu (traditional soft-cover book and eBook for iPad) and Amazon.com (traditional book).

This is really no place for your spam or promotions of anything Toronto Arblow.

Do you walk into bars and call the biggest guy an a$$hole? That would be no more bold than the crap you're pulling in this thread.

I was at both the 86' Eastern Final and the 86 Grey Cup .
Here are a few remembrances.
Eastern Final
Cats were way behind but were starting to come on.
Hank Illisec was Argos punter . Argos were in punt formation . Ticat fans were chanting HANK THE sHANK!!
The snap went 10 feet over his head and landed 10 yards behind him. That was the turning point. Argos were done after that.
Kerrigan was really throwing strikes that day.
Grey Cup
We walked into the Spirit Of Edmonton room (Beer Hall ) wearing our CAts Jerseys , Helmets , Buttons etc.
A group Of Eskimos fans came up to us and said what the He** are you doing here.
When they noticed our ARGOS SUCK! buttons they laughed and offered to buy us a beer.
We've been friends ever since.
98% of the fans in B.C.Place were Eskimos fans . Cats were 20-30 point underdogs.
Edmonton was a football powerhouse for 15 years. They had a dominant team and Ticats had snuck into the playoffs and narrowly beat Toronto.
However, the game was a slaughter. Zambiasi, Covington, Walker pounded the Eskimos two quarterbacks ( Matt Dunigan, Damon Allen ) We blocked a punt and had 10 sacks . Most by half time. By mid way of the 2nd Qtr you could hear a pin drop in that full Stadium
