Miller was not in TO for the game, he said he watched it in Regina. Considering the firings, i cansee why. He was in alks with Taman and the Board after the game.
I think back to back aganist winnipeg will be tough, if we win 1, then for sure it was coaching and a good move, the last 8 games will speak volumes about the quality on the field! Then you'll know if DB & GM were 2 blame! And the common fan will know as much or more than some rider brass:)
PD, come on, if you seriously blame the players and not the coaching on this one? god forbid you ever step behind the ranks of a coach for football!!
you can bet your ass that if these players had been coached by John Hufnagel from Calgary or Marc Trestman of Montreal, that they would not be as bad as they are right now!
there is a lot of talent on this team! they just have little guidance and direction right now. plus the leadership is missing! it comes first from the coaching staff and then the players who have faith in their coaches show their leadership towards the players!
I can bet you that many of these players will find a new found inspiration and dedication to their team (with their jobs being threatened!!) and will come out to play hard vs Winnipeg!
I agree with PrairieDog, if you include the playoffs last year, the Riders were 3 and 5 under Miller to end last year and now going into this year they start 1 and 7. I think it has more to do with personnel than anything. Under Taman the riders are thin on talent and have zero depth.
This may be valid, but I think that the horrid play calling at the ensd of the regular season last year was a major factor in that record. Play calling fell apart once they went to 8 wins. Theyu won the next week in TO, but it was just plain aweful, and got worse from there. That was when it seemed that DD started getting forced into the pocket. This continued until the last game of the season, when they beat the Esks. In that game, the O was drull yet again, but it was like the ever so hot Esks did not show up. Then the Riders seemed to throw out the playbook Hosting BC in a thriller of a playoff game…one of the better games of the year. The next week they played the Stamps, the O looked amazing again, with DD rolling and putting the fear of god into the Stamps. Then the 1st half of the GC they played ok, the Also were humdrum, and then in the second half Berry called one of the worst halfs of football I ever recall seeing…
All right. You coach a secondary with Nick Graham and Chris MacKenzie covering Geroy and Nik Lewis. And I’m not blaming any players. I’m blaming the GM who didn’t get better ones. The players play hard and I never once said that individual players cost games.
All I did was take issue with the statement: “the Riders are terrible because of inept coaching. Nothing else”
This team has the thinnest defense in the league. They are the only team in the league with no rush end and not a single player consistently good at 1 on 1 coverage. They are THE ONLY team in the league with these problems.
As for Huf or Trestman having more success with this team. Ok, maybe they’d be 2-6. But with 2 massive holes on the depth chart in a league with high parity such as this, it’s like fighting Mike Tyson with an arm tied behind your back. No coach can make this a winning team. Not Huf, not Trestman, not Miller, not Parcells, not Belichek, not Grant, not Landry, not Lombardi.
This team will not catch up to the rest of the league until it gets an adequate talent level on defense. It is unfair to judge other aspects such as coaching until this is rectified.
