Thanks to Ron Lancaster for getting this team off the canvas.
Great game by the team...a huge effort by the O-line, paving the way for Josh Ranek shutting up his critics.
The D-line was outstanding, pressuring the various Bomber QBs all night long.
Pat Fleming: welcome to the 2006 season!
Note to Kavis Reed: please bottle this defensive gameplan. We have the talent in the front seven to attack the line of scrimmage and make impact plays. The vanilla zone conservatism that has often plagued us needs to be ditched. It's called cementing a defenive team identity!
Kudos to Deke McPhee for getting Cheatwood and company in full-tilt mode.
Kudos to Joe Paopao for a very good gameplan. Getting the running game loose with subtle adjustments...Coach K for getting the O-line spacing and blocking schemes working most of the night.
Jason Maas led us to a win. Smart with the ball, engineering good drives. There is no QB controversy here. if the offensive line continues to build on this performance, things will be just fine.
I would have liked to see Corey Holmes on offense. Using him as a second-down slot running crossing patterns (as Leif Petterson mentioned) would be a very good thing. As it was, we had a good rhythm offensively. The defence wasn't gassed -- it showed.
By the way: Winnipeg, you're still turning the corner. Period. Breathe, you are in a dogfight.
Great effort for sure.
There should be concern though over special team tackling. And Maas is still not in sync yet. I also hate to see Corey Holmes, Morreale and Flick not being used very much in the offensive game plan. It was good to see Radlein contribute though.
Its coming together so lets hope tonights effort will continue against the Argos.
Well, although the defence was not up against a quarterback that was starter material for much of the game, they deserve credit. We saw them give opposing quarterbacks little time to get passes away with the kind of pass rush we were supposed to see from this team. The front four deserve credit, and kudos to Jykine Bradley for that pick and and perfectly-timed hit. And Tay Cody did not return, did he?
And the offensive line also deserved credit. There have not been many times this year that we could say that, and so we have seen some things from this team that we were supposed to see. And if we saw more of these kinds of performances earlier, I’m sure we’d have more than two wins now.
And Paopao’s playcalling was good enough, but I would like to see more of Holmes on offence. We have seen what he can do on offence, and it does not make much sense to use him almost exclusively on special teams.
Anyway, let’s hope we see more improvement as the season goes on. It is definitely not over.
