Darren caught everything thrown at him, cacelling out MacManus's huge INT totals.
Doug was pure magic.
it would have been cool if the brothers could have played together longer then they did.
I suppose that’s true, but the fact that their careers parted just enforces that Darren made it to the HoF on his own merit, not his brother’s coat tails. It goes to show that even if Doug had never played, Darren was still awesome.
Fixed it for ya
Now as for fixing the title of thread to remove the apostrophe, someone else can handle that one. . .
TSN Top 50 CFL Players
-
Doug Flutie
-
Darren Flutie
He was Top 50 all time and HoFer, not too shabby.
Not to deny the greatness of the Fluties but the poll that declared Doug Flutie number one was clearly flawed. The panel that picked the Top players were divided amongst generations. Most who were around long enough to see both Flutie and Jackie Parker picked Parker. The panel members who only saw Flutie play, chose Flutie.
people also have a tendency to pick their first favorites. For instance, I would vote Fernandez the best ever receiver because I was his fan before the likes of Pitts and Stegall and Darren came along, even though I am also a big fan of Darren.
Which is to say, the older people picking older players does not make their opinions have any more value.
To me, if I should live another 50 yrs, no one will ever be better than Pinball, Flutie, Fernandez, or Lui.
When picking between players, having the knowledge of having seen both players does in fact give their opinions more value. How can one judge what they haven't seen?

youtube
watching flutie play again today. pure football heaven.
talk about mixed blessing. Lui has one of his worst days, missing 3 FG, on the day he passes Cutler for all time points.
