Why play to beat the Jets but rest against the Bills? Come on...
because good sportsmanship says to try to beat the jets to be fair to other contenders for playoffs.
because they were playing at home
because they obviously would have had to play their a team to beat the jets on that day
because they can probably beat the bills with their b, or even c, team.
They could have had their cake and ate it too
Why did they bother playing Payton at all against the jets if they didnt want to win?
If they rest a lot of players and still beat the Bills, then my point is very valid. If not, oh well…
Because you’re less likely to get injured in a dome in Indianapolis in December than outside in Buffalo in January
All I know is that NFL apologists in country are screaming that the Bills in Toronto series is a flop because, the Bills have not played a quality opponet.
Yet people in TO got to see the Super Bowl Champions in the preseason last year and also got to see a playoff team in the Miami Dolphins.
This season they once again got to see a playoff team in the Jets(if they win this week)
This is in a league where only 35% of the teams make the playoffs...
TO has gotten very good opponets in their games and still fans have not shown up..
Can you imagine if Clevland or Detroit were showing up?
Your forgeting that alot of people in the states BET on nfl football, IMHO it stinks of corruption!
CFL, what does any of that have to do with the Colts not going undefeated? Take that anti-Bills crap elsewhere. There are already half a dozen topics about that. No need to hijack another topic.
Mass, if people want to bet on these games, that's their problem.
FYB, if other teams miss the playoffs, oh well. Maybe they should've won more games. Take Denver... for a while they were leading the division. Then they collapsed. I certainly won't feel sorry for them if they miss the playoffs because the Colts gave the Jets a win.
As for playing Peyton at all, it's to give him and the others some reps so they don't completely rust up. Look at Peyton last season when he missed the entire pre-season. It took him a month to get going. I imagine Caldwell will play the starters this week for maybe the first half, and then pull them.
Have to agree with Chief here that it's no one's business what the Colts wanna do. The funniest quote this week was Lamar Woodley of the Steelers saying other teams were gonna lay done to make sure the Steelers wouldn't get in. That being said I myself am a big believer in playing guys to stay in rythym. Example a few years ago when the Pats and the Giants went all out in the last game when the Pats were going for the perfect year. They played an awesome game and carried it to the SB.
I myself am a little ticked the Vikings are blowing all their home field through the playoffs as I have tickets to all the games
I don't agree with pulling Peyton that early in the season and most of the starter especially if you've got 1st round bye essentially if everyone sits this week these players will have played 1 whole half of football in just less than a Months time your throwing awhole teams regime away they've been doing the same things for months now you give em a months rest to me not good.
The only thing is alot of players would kill for a undeafeated season over winning the superbowl multiple times, like these players would rather go into the hall of fame with 1 super bowl ring being undeafeated than have say 3 superbowl rings because theres 100's of players that have 3 or more SB's and many more to follow but how many players in the Hall have "Perfect season" written to there name not many. You could just see the emotion on all the starters faces when they were watching there perfect season going to wash.
If they win the Super Bowl this year, I'm pretty sure they'll all get over it real fast. Besides, I think this could actually motivate them more.
and, although it shouldnt be, it is quite possible that this dissappointment could have a negative affect on their post season play, even they themselves dont want it to.
One can only imagine what the T.O Media would be spewing had it Been a CFL team that threw a game purposely Let alone a perfect season OP:twisted:
Montreal's done it the last several years. Granted, they were never playing for a perfect season, but they've been known to rest a lot of their starters. As I said, it's a pretty common practice in sports.
Not sure which starters Montreal sat in the third q in a close game? I can see your point of view Chief, I just cant understand the NFL,s double standard, they claim to be so good , but clearly after they sit a couple key players they are just BAD. lmao
Off the top of my head, I honestly couldn't tell if you they've ever pulled their starters in the third quarter of a close game, but I do know they regularlly sit a lot of their starters in the last few games of the season.
As for your other comment, that's a completely different discussion, man.

They’re going to mess with the draft just to get teams to stop resting their starters? This is so ridiculous. The only reason this is even an issue is because the Colts gave up an opportunity at going 16-0. If they’d had a loss, no one would care that they rested their starters. Stupid, stupid, stupid!
Well, Peyton and the Colts broke their streak of 0-3 after the Bye Week, and they're now headed to Miami to play in the Super Bowl for the second time in four years.
Anyone still wanna question Indy's decision not to go for 16-0?
I usually dont play this card, but I am playing it today
3 key injuries to the jets = colts victory.
Yes I still question giving up the 16-0. If they had beat the jets, they might not have almost lost to them today.
Did you notice the rust on manning in the first half, missed throws etc. Almost cost them
The colts have been my number one team since Flutie retired, but I still say they got lucky today. Not that they didnt do a lot right, but they still had help with the jets bad luck injuries.
Got lucky today? What the hell are you talking about? What game did you watch, FYB?
No, the Colts won because they played a good game. As far as injuries... part of the game, man. And besides, the Colts played the majority of the game without Wayne and Clark. Those two were shut down. Peyton had to rely on a couple of inexperienced rookies, and boy did those kids show up. They had a combined 18 receptions for 274 yards and 2 TDs.
The Colts D held the running game in check, only giving up 86 yards to a team that averaged, what was it, 173 yards? They held the Jets scoreless in the second half.
The Colts were simply the better team today, and Jim Caldwell has this team rolling. If you want to continue to bury your head in the sand, be my guest. Fact remains, Caldwell and Bill Polian were right to rest the starters.
I watched a game where healthy jets took a 17-6 lead before 2 key defensive injuries help the colts offense and before the lose of green destroyed the jets offense. Not to mention those there elsewhere mentioned 2 more missed field goals.
