Thanks for the Spanking!

Full marks go to the Rider team. They came to play football and well my team came to eat ice cream cones.
I am glad my team got the spanking this will serve notice you can not go into a game unprepared to play.

…and just think my son…you have to get this train back on the tracks in a couple of days…the Argos are probably salivating after watching that one…

No kidding! But they always seem to have a stinker and well thats hope this was the one. You had to know it was going to get ugly when my buddy Nik drops passes that hit his mitts.

I don't think this is a game typical of this year's Stamps.....it was just an isolated horrible beating.....I expect we'll see far better from them in the future.....

Well if they do not prepare to go play football this could happen again. I am not taking anything away from the riders they were hungry to lay a lickin on this sick horse and they did just that. Usually you can pick out one or two players from a beaten team that you could say played well. Not this game they pretty well all played badly not one guy stood out. Where as the Riders even the waterboy played well.

Nonetheless, Red and Redfaced has implied ever since my Riders whumped his Stamps in the playoffs last year IN CALGARY that the victory was a fluke! Seems to me a team that got humiliated at home in the playoffs would be drooling waiting to play that team again next season. No heart, no fight - something is missing terribly with the Stamps- they all quit. Next week will determine whether they have a together team that can put the past behind. If they lose and Henry Who plays lousy- Yikes it will be a long season in cowtown. Coaching is suspect too with the Stamps.

Riders Ruled this one and the last one last year!

Just remember turkey, we play a very good team next week as well, a test to see if we are real contenders or pretenders.. we passed the 1st part, beating a good Stamps team.. next time we play them, its going to be a lot closer.

Turkeynuts better start working on the parade float!

…If I am one of those two Reds I’m sorry turk but I do not recall ever saying the rider victory in the WSF was a fluke…they won it fair and square…

Yes turkey that lays on my shoulders. Do not include my buddy redandwhite. Hey red to avoid confusion maybe I should get a moniker change RK2005 or something that way they do not get to confused. Turkey can not see the difference so just maybe this could help him.

And a great number of cones at that...
I appreciate the fact you started a thread like this, 05. A lot of fans would turtle after that debacle.
Things like this happen, and do not necessarily reflect the respective abilities of the teams.
Hopefully the number of times we hear from you about the 44-18 drubbing we took 2 years ago will become less frequent.....?

And I simply must comment on the fact that apparently the "One Team" slogan must be working, as I don't recall Copeland doing much dancing. And Nik stopped showboating after his 5 yard receptions sometime between the first quarter and his third dropped pass...looks like Reggie's trash talk got the better of him....
Sorry! But I couldn't resist!!

Anyway, the plans for the parade route are coming along quite well......

Someone mentioned it earlier, about the coaching, and here in Saskatchewan, is it just me, or are we getting more from our players? I know its early in the season, but take last week for example. With Danny Barrett as the coach, we what, won 2 games against montreal in 7 years? Kent Austin had the riders fired up, and sure it wasnt a great win, but it still counts. THen yesterday, he lays a licking on the Stamps who layed a licking on us the same time last year.
I donno, is Kent Austing really making that big of a difference. Like, it seems as if the Riders are more fired up, take no prisoners, ready to play, great preperation football team.

p.s. he must being doing something right with our QBs also. I only seen one over-throw by Kerry, and that was when he was getting hit, so it shouldnt really count either. Great Job Austin!

The Stamps got tatooed big time in all facets of the game.
I am not sure whether this was covered in any other postings, but why was there only 25,800 in the building for opening night, the Burris factor and a beautiful football afternoon???
Riders answers please _________________(fill in the blank).

4000 more than last year, argotom.....I'll take it.

It is simple, really.
It isn't about Kent Austin, or Danny Barret, or their respective abilities to coach.
It is about the fact that in sports, it is very common for a team to plateau under one coach.
And that, quite simply, is what happened with the Riders the last couple of years.
Sometimes it takes a change of leadership to shake things up and take a team to the next level.
The best football example I can think of is Tony Dungy/Jon Gruden.
Dungy built on awesome team in Tampa, but they couldn't get to the next level. Everybody critisized him for his inability to develop on offence.
Grudin comes in and boom--Superbowl champs.
Now for my money, Dungy is twice the coach that Jon Gruden is, but what Tampa needed to get to the next level was change. It happens. And all the time.
And so far, that is the case with the Riders.

A spanking is 49 points... more like an ***-whooping!
'Riders FTW in the West, and Bombers FTW in the East!

i totally agree with that also, but you have to admit that Austin is a better motivator, he gets his guys ready and fired up.

You really cant judge that this early in the season, imho.

i know, lol. But, you have to admit that there is a new Vibe coming from this Rider team, and that has to be a little bit of a reflection from the change at coach.

some quotes from Burris....I wonder if the "One" is done.

"They didn't do jack to us,'' said Burris, a former Rider who once again was booed by the crowd while completing 12 of 25 passes for 124 yards with one TD and one interception.
"We did it to ourselves. You can't drop balls, you can't have any turmovers. It doesn't matter what anybody else does. It's all about us in this locker room: If we come out and play, we'll win the game. We didn't play, they played a good game and that's why we got our butts kicked.''
Burris, of course, remains a one-man drama because of his inconsistent ways. He completed 12 of 25 passes for 124 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
But he didn't receive much help and was quick to spread the blame.
"Stuff happened that I couldn't control," said Burris. "On the interception, I couldn't control what happened there. I make my reads and I throw the ball. Nik (Lewis) was open, the guy I was throwing to, but if the guy doesn't run the right route . . .
"I'm not going to say names, but it was one person after another and then I had the fumble."
