There was a time when Andre Talbot walked away from the Argos. Now he's looking to stay with them for at least the next four years.

The Argos will announce today that the veteran receiver, who had a career year last season, has signed a new deal for three years plus an option, foregoing the chance to test the free-agency market that begins two weeks from today.

"I love Toronto. I haven't really kept that a secret," he said yesterday. "They wanted me here and what they offered me was fair. They wanted me long term and I wanted go long term. It shows they see the value in me staying here and so do I. I didn't want to go anywhere else. It would have broken my heart to leave the city."

Talbot had 48 catches for 679 yards last year and two touchdowns, almost matching his output of his first four seasons, which totalled 59 catches, 721 yards and four TDs.

The 27-year-old product of Wilfrid Laurier battled injuries for his first three seasons and, at one point, left the team when relegated to the practice roster. He played all 18 games in 2004 and became a full-time starter last season at wideout.

"I'm definitely looking to build on last year and the year before that," he said. "I think the best years are ahead of me. That's another reason I signed a long-term deal."
