Support Senator Campbell

…actually, McMahon Stadium is the reverse…the original stadium was completely funded privately by the McMahon brothers Frank and George and gifted to the city…the upgrades for the 88 Olympics were funded by tax dollars…

Well I will stand corrected, thought the land was taxpayers. So the $300,000 they donated covered the whole cost of construction?? Who paid for the expansion from 20,000 seats?

Oh please. CFL stadiums built with public money? First off which ones? And second, how much are we talkin' here? 10-20 million tops? And considering how old most of those stadiums are, probably not much more.

When we're talking Toronto, we;re talking 600 million. And for the NFL, who knows how much they'll want.

It's not gonna happen. Ottawa Senators had to pay for a ramp off the highway to their arena. The Leafs never got one cent. The feds won't help any of our teams. So no way will they be building another TAj Mahal stadium for Toronto.

Espcially when Toronto uses it to show how bush league the rest of the country is because our stadiums aren't as fancy. Figure that one out.

How about the expansion of Molson stadium, $28 million it will cost and the team is paying only $4.3 million.

You said: "Especially when not one of our CFL or NHL teams have gotten one penny of public money for their stadiums"

THAT IS JUST A PLAIN LIE! EVERY CFL STADIUM HAS HAD PUBLIC MONEY!

BC Place: GOvernment Money
Taylor Field: Government Money
Commonwealth Stadium: Government Money
Winnipeg: Gov Money
Ivor Wynn: GOv Money
Molson Stadium: Gov Money
MacMahon Stadium: Private to start and Public to expand

a) yup, $300,000 built the original stadium. I think the land was donated though from the UofC. But the neat part was from earthturning ceremony to ready-to-play was 100 days. Never in today’s world.

b) Joint fed/prov funding for the olympics took it from 20K to the current 36K, as per you previous post.

The money for the stadium was given for the the 88 games. The committee used a portion on the expansion and upgrades to hold the openning and closing of the games.
