Obviously, the most obvious is replacing Z Collaros, whether it be for 1 game - or more.
Jake Dolegala is the obvious capture - while he’s still available. If not Bombers will forge on with the worst QB duo in the league - Chris Stripper and some unknown vagrant who’s in at #3. -
Other changes - find a semi-permanent solution for the badly hobbled Adam Bighill. Should have been doing this from the getgo but Bombers are a stubborn lot. Now, lots of MLB & LB stiffs to look at from the NFL cut pool.
-
Bring back Jackson Jeffcoat (assuming he’s in shape) for the last 4 or 5 games plus playoffs. Bombers have little to no oomph on their o-line. Jeffcoat gives them that oomph.
-
Bring back Geoff Gray at OG to give Bombers a bit of add to their woeful o-line. Gray is a free agent - but he’s also a big deal at his engineering firm
-
Get some help for Lucky Whitehead returning kicks. Lucky is good at catching the ball - but his returns are a bit lacking, much of that due to inferior blocking schemes and some ill-timed holding calls.
Those changes matter not. Bombers are in decline and Lions, young and skilled are taking over.
Its obvious Bombers are in decline. Any team in the western division can take the duke (other than Calgary obviously) and Calgary isn’t that bad.
Bombers are in obvious decline - Collaros & Bighill are on last legs. Stan Bryant is near 40 and ready to toss in the towel. Bomber trenches (both sides) have been ravaged by defections and insertion of inferior players.
But a few key/strategic moves down the stretch could give them a boost where they become capable of tricking the western ringleaders out of a Grey Cup appearance and making their final GC appearance 5th in 5 years.
Winnipeg’s mini-dynasty will be complete - and only saddened by the fact they’ll roster an inferior team to mount a feeble challenge when Wpg hosts the Grey Cup.
Wpg is much like the Green Bay Packers at the end of their great run. You knew it was going to end as guys like Bart Starr, Jerry Kramer, Willy Davis, Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor, Nitschke, Ringo, etc. ran out of gas but you just didn’t know when.
For the Bombers 2024 is definitely the last year before a substantial retreat occurs.
Only you could be so pessimisitic after a big win and claiming 1st place.
Why don’t you try enjoying something for once?
Six regular season games left and (potentially) another three playoff games. This is just slightly less games than Jeffcoat would suit-up for over the last few seasons. Bringing him back for the stretch run could only have a positive impact, imo.
2nd&9 and the Bombers run the ball, it’s very clear they didnt trust Strev throwing.
All Wpgs eggs are in the Collaros basket because they aren’t winning games with Strev starting any significant length of time.
LBS, I agree totally. Nobody can “wish” a team to be better. O’Shea is a stubborn, loyal, dude. But there is a time to move on, and the tall foreheads in Bomberland continue to wear the Emperor’s new clothes. Problem is: the emperor’s subjects (AKA fans) are not that stupid, nor are the opposing teams. With, or without Collaros (who was showing signs of decay prior to the concussion) they are NOT a championship team any more. It must be remembered that the Riders gave up on Zach, mostly for his own good, as they thought they would jeopardize his future well-being by letting him play. Well BB got a handful of good years out of him. I am not in position to make a medical prognosis, but I am guessing Zach may have played his last game, as successive concussions multiply the damage. I bear no ill will to any player (except maybe Chad) so it is not for any personal agenda that I say: PLEASE Zach, throw in the towel so that you will have a future with your loved ones. BTW, Dolegala is not a “has been;” he is a “never was.” My sister would be a better choice for the BB. And, a question: with Zach sliding down the backside of the hill, why didn’t the BB do whatever it takes to keep Dru?
Stripper ain’t gonna complete too many passes into Cover Zero. With a pair of duds at OT Chris ain’t gonna be getting to the edge to utilize his speed and power in penetrating defenses with his running either.
Even a declining Collaros is superior to Chris the Stripper. A diminished Collaros still possesses a giant football mind, something Stripper has never owned.
BTW, the BB mugging our receiver was the best play they made in the whole game…because it led to a pick. Of course, the pick was wiped out by PI, but it took the clock from 14 to 3. Without the pick, Harris would have had time for 2 more plays before a FG attempt…time to move closer.
It was reported that Zach was removed from yesterday’s game for precautionary reasons after the gruesome illegal head shot. O’Shea said that he isn’t even in concussion protocol. So the Bombers are trying hard to take care of Zach and it seems he has likely escaped the latest attempt by the opposition to seriously injure him via an illegal head shot.
The Bombers had no choice on Brown as they didn’t have the cap space to sign him. The same thing will likely happen with Alexander in Montreal after this season, unless the Als are able to use the bogus end around marketing money salary cap sham BC is currently using to pay their back up $400,000.
Exceptionally good point. Bombers were up 2 with 14 sec. to play after Harris botched his 2pt conversion.
They kicked off from their own 25 and targeted Spiderman Jefferson with a beautifully executed onside kickoff that had the perfect combination of loft + distance as Hanigan wiped out Jefferson and the Riders were able to recover the ball. All that only took 3 sec off the clock to boot. MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE BEST ONSIDE KICKOFF I’VE EVER WITNESSED.
The PI that resulted in a later to be rescinded pic ran off the clock as the Bomber defender (Holm, I believe) had the prescience to keep running while the clock frantically bit off seconds. A stupid, poorly-coached player might have fallen to the ground instantly to secure the football. Anything more than 5 seconds remaining and Harris would have had a chance to execute 1 more play - even a quick 4 to 6yd out would have meant a 60% of better chance at a 53 to 55yd game-winning FG vs. the 95% no chance of Lauther hammering it in from 60+.
Actually a brilliant move from the Bombers to extract Zach from the game before the league spotter could place him in concussion protocol. With that in mind - Zach’s health is completely under the auspices of Bomber medical staff, no independent analysis.
Great move football wise. Really crazy and dangerous though when it comes to the health of a respected league star - just to reduce the chances of being ruled out for upcoming games. Bombers know they have little to no chance with Stripper at the helm. A damaged but upright Collaros gives them a decent chance to not only make the playoffs but make a bit of noise during any playoff game(s).
