Strength of Schedule Calculation

Has anyone seen a Strength of Schedule (SoS) for CFL teams? If so, could they share the link? If not, is this something you’d be interested in?

First I think its important to grab historical data but I’d like to consider team’s record from the previous season, home/away record, and time between games.

I’ll share my thoughts on this post as I go along so the weighting can be adjusted accordingly but something that I’d like ready by next season.

I usually go to playoffstatus.com for other leagues but they dont do CFL. Something like they do would be great

I don’t think I’ve ever seen one which does anything more than average their opponents’ record, if even that.

It would be cool to have such a measurement, would you use it as a tool for something else, or just to have SoS measurements?

Part of it is bringing the league more in line with others. Also would like to better evaluate the nuances of the CFL.

Part of it is also me getting an opportunity to nerd out on numbers.

I don’t know much about it but do know the NFL has a sophisticated system for determining strength of schedule and that the results are published and available. I don’t know how accessible their formulas are, but if you had a look you might be able to gather some intel on how they do it that you can apply to the CFL.

Yes, I would be very interested.

Yes, this. I’m also a numbers guy.

The people who produce the Monte Carlo rest-of-season simulations have to be assigning a probability of A beating B for each match, but their mechanism seems very opaque to me. They list some of the factors they say they take into account in their articles.

A lot of what the CFL does is rather opaque. It bothers me to no end.

Between cap space, PFF stats, and scheduling, it makes it seem like they don’t have an idea what they’re doing. To some capacity I’m sure they do, but they don’t give off that appearance.
