We are full swing into the 2023 preseason with five games in the books and plenty to sink our teeth into. With so much quarterback movement over the winter, that position is the one I had my eye on most during the first week of the exhibition schedule.
While we expect Jeremiah Masoli to retake his spot as Ottawa’s No. 1 quarterback to start the season, he’s not going to play during the preseason. As such, that leaves a little uncertainty in the early going. Encouragingly, though, Arbuckle looked right at home running the offence in two plus quarters as the REDBLACKS fell 22-21 to Montreal.
Arbuckle got off to a red-hot start before settling in and finished 15-for-25 with 209 yards and looked comfortable and in control. It’s a good sign for Arbuckle, who enters his first full season in Ottawa. If Masoli isn’t quite ready to start the year, Arbuckle’s preseason performance certainly bodes well.
Did he even watch the game … RBs fans are PRAYING for Masoli to be healthy as (IMO) Arbuckle looked BAD against a defence staffed almost exclusively by backups or worse.
Did you watch the game? Arbuckle looked pretty good, he moved the ball, and had a few drops and he could easily had a couple of TDs.
When someone says “he was playing against backups” you have to remember that these backups have something to prove.
I thought Adams looked good and he’s more mobile.
Sorry, I have been waiting for the last two days to comment on the site Re; Mitchell’s performance , and that site doesn;t seem to be working. (Any one at CFL Command listening out there?) Anyway - Mitchel played well and I am really looking forward to cheering for him in a Tiger uniform - he is one of the good ones. So if by a slim chance no one else has said it to Bo - - OSKI -WEE- WEE!
Makes more sense he’s a Bombers fan - more trees to hide behind in Manitoba…
No mention of West teams - maybe next week…Little doubt Pigrome is sticking in Winnipeg though. So with Zach as starter that leaves just sorting out who to keep on the active roster and on the practice roster.
I thought performance of the week was Dane Evans though. He had his head in the game and made stuff happen against the Riders on the weekend. He likely cleared up any argument about who’s second on the depth chart
The other three west teams are a muddy picture for sure. Calgary? Maier had a pretty crappy start against the “show me what you got” playing for a spot on the practice roster 3rd string Elks.
Then the Elks…a bit like days of old in the QB department. Corny is the starter, no question then probably Ford then…well they played 5th string development guy Beaudry at Full Back to find him a roster spot. Locksley was solid as he has shown before, and Doege looked like a veteran when he played in Calgary, so…who the heck knows what Jones id brewing up here.
And the Riders, the fight was on to fill the depth chart out but the picture is just as muddy as it was before their game. Fine? Dolgala? both? someone else? Guess we will find out more when they make cuts after this weeks tilt in Winnipeg.
Arbuckle couldn’t post one major against an Als defense composed mostly of second and third-stringers, despite playing for most of the game and despite Ottawa dressing many starters on offense. That’s sad.
