Stefan Ptaszek

So with the three 'preseason' games that we are going to play to evaluate talent does Stefan get a chance to diagram a game and act as an offensive coordinator?

Betcha there would be no second and 1 , nor 1st and goal from the 4 passing plays.

Honestly I blame Stef for those plays. He's the experienced "Canadian" on the staff and he should be letting Jones know how stupid this is. If he is and Jones isn't listening then hes not respected, and if he isn't hes just as bad.
I cant see him being back.

Perhaps questionable calls but if the plays had worked we would be giving the coach high fives. Jones seems to gamble a bit to make the big play. The team has been exciting to watch under his leadership.

This. On that pass to tasker on 3rd and 1 it was off by a hair otherwise that was good as gold

like Rapunzel's hair? cuz that pass was off by a mile.

Ouch. I'm thinking this is a bit harsh. I really wonder under what conditions SP was brought on. Was he promised instant input..... a long apprenticeship.... or was he window dressing or was he even brought in to relate to the younger players because Austin couldn't? Throw in the circus around him and I think it's safe to say that we don't have a clue about his capabilities at this level.

You may be right that he might not be respected.... or it may be that the team has been on emergency drive using one man's vision and that things will intentionally open up now that there is no urgency.

I’ll be very disappointed if they let him go in the off season. He was brought in to be the OC and through no fault of his own was played like a fiddle. Great guy who drank the Austin coolaid. I think he should stay to be groomed to take over from JJ a few years down the road. We need more CANADIAN coaches in the CFL.

Such is professional sports. Don't think for a second that Ptaszek wouldn't have known the risks when he took the job. If the 2018 head coach thinks there's a role where Ptaszek is the best candidate, then great, but if not, that's just the football business for you.

You can't blame Steph if he's talking and no one is listening and if his voice isn't respected then that's not his fault either.

We don't know what the circumstances were behind those decisions....how can you put the blame on ANYONE accept those that have the final say??

I agree a 100% with Crash. Stef must go. He has no influence on Jones.Bring in Milanovich.

He is the offensive co-ordinator. He also has the most Canadian coaching experience on our staff. Many have agreed that the lack of QB sneaking is an absolute joke and makes us look like the biggest bush league team ever. His job needs to be to take Coach Jones aside and explain to him exactly in those terms how dumb it really is, either with film, stats or other examples.

If he's doing that and Coach Jones isn't listening, then as I said he isn't respected so why keep him in such a prominent role?

If the narrative is true and Kent Austin wasn't able to hire big name assistants because of the stigma around him and his team, then that's now over with and we can go out and get a respected assistant because of how widely regarded June Jones is. Maybe Stef will move to an offensive consultant role and somebody else will be Co-ordinator.

Lmao. As if Milanovich is going to leave an NFL gig to come back to Canada. Hilarious.

Tell someone with CFL experience that can influence jones. Milanovich is just an example.

You mean like Stef Ptaszek? ::slight_smile:

In Montreal, during the Trestman regime, it was often thought that, even though he had an OC, Marc still called the plays.

When June arrived as the head coach, he stated that HE would say what play was to be used and Steph would interpret that into Tiger cat playbook lingo. That tells me that Steph is NOT stipulating what the offense will do.

Your statement is full of IF's, that's far from fact and is your guessing what the situation is.

Ptaszek is not an experienced CFL OC. Find one who is. and knows how to call plays.

How much experience did Dave Dickenson, Marcus Brady have when they were hired for such in this league...their teams are doing alright.....

It takes time....patience.

Ptaszek is surely an upcoming talent. But I think he should be re-assigned to a position such as receivers or running backs coach. Let him learn the ropes without having so much pressure as an OC position.

I'm with you home team! We have to take the time, and take the speed bumps, to develop some talent instead of hiring on some other team's cast-offs. No one to my knowledge is every born a CFL, or a head coach, they all have to learn and grow into the position. Right now Ptaszek has all kinds of mentors and experienced coaches around him, what better time to learn and absorb? Bring in a new guy and we are yet again starting over.

Dickenson wasn't promoted to Offensive Coordinator until he already had two full seasons under his belt in a lesser coaching role in the CFL. Brady wasn't promoted to Offensive Coordinator until he already had two full seasons under his belt in a lesser coaching role in the CFL.

So the answer to your question is, in addition to having very recent experience as active-roster CFL quarterbacks, they each had two seasons of non-OC CFL coaching experience before they were promoted to OC.
