The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result

Well the Bombers didn’t lose the Grey Cup because of him. He was the best player in that game on either team. Any team would sign him if he wanted to leave Winnipeg, but he lives there year round and consistently takes a home town discount on his contract. Yes he is older and a little slower, but he’s still a one man wrecking crew much of the time. The Bombers are at the stage where they need to get rid of some aging players, but Willie isn’t one of them.

1000% agree.

But its 1 year later. How long can you rely on him

For at least another year I’d bet.

Do you not think that the Stamps would be giddy at the mere chance of picking up Willie Jefferson for at least one season?

Or are the Bombers simply still maintaining space in your head? You really need to take a day off.

Don’t know how long. That will be up to Willie and the coaches/management. It’s actually less than two months since he was the best player in the Grey Cup. Why would any team not want him? He’s a freak of nature and a team leader and could play for any team in the league right now. He was also only two sacks behind the league leaders last year and all CFL. Would you move on from someone like that?

Doubt it. Stamps have never been one to go for quick short term fixes. We think longer term. SHort term is more of a Rider/Bomber thing

Longer term sustainability is about getting rid of players a year early rather than a year late, so to speak. Example being when Stamps traded Charleston Hughes.

True, but Jefferson just had an all star season and was spectacular in the playoffs. He is several years younger than his stated age body wise. Like I said, he’s a freak of nature. He’s in exceptional shape and is never hurt. I can’t think of any reason not to have him on your team nor can I point to one sign that he is nearing his best before date. That will come in time, but the time isn’t here yet. You may be thinking of Bighill.

Soo… how did that work out for ya. Are the Stamps currently on a long-term loosing streak?

By the by, when the Stamps extended Reggie’s contact my first thought was congratulations…not how can I criticise the Stampeders. Perhaps one can learn from being more of a positive person.

Depends on philosophy. Stick with an older more expensive player in the short term, or think longer term with someone younger (and cheaper) for longer term success at the position. There must be a plan or you will soon fall off a cliff

Of course. No debate there. What you haven’t answered though is how does that apply to one of the consistently best players in the league at his position with no obvious signs of a drop off.

It isn’t an exact science to make these predictions for any team in any sport and I think management and coaches whiff as much as they succeed. Yet some decisions, such as the one to re-sign Jefferson, aren’t really debatable with the information we have at hand from a football point of view. There are many examples of good and bad decisions for every team. the Bombers haven’t always made the right decision, but they knocked it out of the park on Andrew Harris. The Stamps have a history of making the right decisions as much as anyone, but recently whiffed on replacing Bo with Maier.

Willie was, in my opinion, the MVP in the Grey Cup. Going to their 6th consecutive Grey Cup won’t be easy, it never is, but still feel that they have as good a chance as anyone else. Go Blue

Willie Jefferson wasn’t a Blue Bomber when I first adopted WPG as “my team,” but he is one of the reasons why I like the team even more than ever.
