Stamps in trouble

Stamps in disarray - will Dickenson move upstairs next year? He’s probably lost the room and they’re likely not making the playoffs. stadium probably needs an upgrade soon I would think.

Friday night’s loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders was a defining moment for this Calgary team. Winless in their last five, they had a chance to claw back into playoff contention with a victory over a floundering rival. Instead, they came out listless in all three phases and never recovered from a 15-point halftime deficit, losing 37-29.

If the result on the scoreboard and the production on the field were emblematic of the type of year this team has had, then what happened after was symbolic of everything wrong inside the franchise. According to multiple reports, a verbal altercation erupted in the team’s locker room shortly after the final whistle and lasted several minutes. Veteran cornerback Tre Roberson Sr. and rookie defensive tackle Josiah Coatney allegedly had to be separated by teammates.

“(The mood) is what you would think. It’s super frustrated. It’s a feeling of failure and I can’t even really go into much more (detail) than that,” quarterback Jake Maier told reporters after the spat. “It’s just an unfortunate feeling right now and there’s no way around it. There’s no way to hide it. We are what we are.”

When you make the playoffs for eighteen years no guy wants to be part of the crew that breaks that run…but here they are…

You can’t fill two major positions in the CFL anymore. Even the Head Coach and OC/DC is proving to be more than most guys can handle…

Just look at the teams that have a GM, HC, OC and DC, like Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg…

It’s time to find a coach and for Dave to do what Huf used to - GM and spot for the HC during games. As it is he is spread too thin and not doing a good job of being either HC or GM.

Agreed. and Dickenson deserves a lot of rope. But the scenes from last game we’re concerning to me. I’m not a Stamps fan obviously, but I also don’t want to see them struggle internally. Fandom and humour aside, the CFL kinda needs healthy franchises. The Stamps don’t seem too healthy right now. At least they have stable ownership, and that is a big deal in the CFL.

CFL also leave no real room or patience for building and team development in the longer term, at least not like the NFL does (for obviou$ rea$on$). the pressure and goal is always to win in the short term with little long term stability, at least on the field.

Huf is still involved and I think he will help straiten things out.

A spat in the dressing room - ya know really - if no one cared that wouldn’t happen would it?
They do need to focus and put their efforts in to showing some pride on the field and playing hard for the rest of the season.

Since Huff showed up, the stamps have been successful long term AND short term.
Last year and possibly the year before was the first time in over 18 years the Stamps looked to be struggling with recruiting great players and great future talent waiting to get their chance…not an easy thing to do for 18 years in the CFL.
It can’t go on forever, but I see no reason why the current coach and staff and those above need to be blown up in the organization

Even if the Head Coach is OCD

This shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone. Last year was a harbinger of things to come. If the senior Dickey had a clue, the Riders woulda , shoulda, coulda, booted the Stamps out of the playoffs last year. But, he let the inmates run the asylum. ie. His players were mailing it in, no accountability. So he chews them out. Subsequently, unbelievably, he apologizes. He didn’t just lose the team; he lost his mind. Apparently Jr. Dickey hasn’t paid attention to all the examples of failure by wearing too many hats. Campbell in BC is not an exception because he has an assistant GM who does most of the heavy lifting.

anyone up for some more offseason nepotism? next probable head coach?

This “Stamps in Trouble” saying seems like a big nothing burger:

If there’s nine teams in the league and there’s an even distribution of wins and losses across the league, four teams will have a winning record, four other teams will have losing records, and one team will be .500

This is simply a case of the pendulum swinging to the loss side for Calgary along with three other teams.

You can’t have all teams in the league with winning records

Whoa!! Edmonton is the best example of the absolute failure where C Jones made record shattering loses as GM, HC

CD could have served his radio interview job resume a little better by omitting the section about how part of his “senior consulting” role is to make coffee and ball boy duties.

Equalization has leveled all the teams. Stamps, Elks, Sask could get the league to reduce equalization a bit.
