Dickey drops another one. Nothing wrong with Masin. By all projections he should be a very good punter, but why didn’t Dickey draft Jibunor, whom the Elks selected at third? Jibunor has stud linebacker written all over him.

There were plenty of good punters available in the draft, and while Masin would likely not have been available in the second round, there would surly have been good punters still on the board when Dickey made his second pick.

Dickey still hasn’t figured out how to utilize the global draft.

Who says Dickey gets it right in the first round this evening? Not me.

I figured Calgary would have to go after a punter because Grace moved to Edmonton with Kilam. Was really sorry to see Grace go , but this guy looks great as a replacement punter. Good catch by the Stampeders.

Sorry to disagree but Calgary didn’t have a punter after Grace left. It was necessary to get a punter . There aren’t any in the national Draft. With 8 others picking before the 2nd Calgary pick there could have been no punters left. A national linebacker can be selected in the CFL draft and could be better than Jibunor. The Stamps really have only had good results in the Global draft for punters. So I think it was wise of Dickerson to pick the punter 1st overall in the Global Draft.

I have to agree here. They needed to select someone who is ready to commit to the CFL right now, and Masin seems like he’s that guy. Not so sure about Vassett, who seems to be more of a directional punter. We’ll have to see how the camp battle plays out.

No need to apologize for disagreeing.

My first counterpoint is that five punters were taken in the second round, including a second one by the Stamps, so there would have been punters available in Round 2 for Dickey to pickey. Also, how many CFL clubs actually need a punter because the spot is empty? How many drafted a punter just to give competition to the incumbent?

My second counterpoint is that there are plenty of punters available in the National Draft, and Dickey will likely nab one there.

No slight on Masin, but Jibunor could prove to be not just a stud, but a ratio breaker.

Had Dickey chosen Jibunor, he could have also go a global punter. It’s like having your cake and eating it, too.

Ten punters chosen in the first 2 rounds? I don’t think teams really take the global draft very seriously.

Yeah you’ve got a point there. And it’s not like there are zero FAs out there. Stefan Flintoft, while not my first choice, could have been brought in alongside Canadian Dante Mastroguissepe, who played well for the Bombers last preseason.

The more I think about it, the worse their selection seems.

I suspect they’ll bring in a guy like Ethan Sossen or Ben George in the National Draft to round out the competition.

Well Calgary will be doing a lot of punting this year so stocking up is wise

11 out of 18 players selected in this draft were kickers/punters.
Thanks Randy!
