Stampeders defeat Roughriders in regular season finale

REGINA — It’s better late than never for the Calgary Stampeders as they won their first road game of the year in the regular season finale against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday evening. Jake Maier‘s three touchdown passes led his club to their fifth win of 2024 with a 27-12 result at Mosaic Stadium.

That was a pathetic lackluster way for the saskatchewan roughriders football club to prepare for the 2024 CFL playoffs. The BC Lions will be sure to bring their A game after resting up for the forthcoming trip to that little hamet called regina. Look for the Lions to face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the West Division final and then the Montreal Alouettes vs the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2024 Grey Cup.

Of course you’re the only one to comment on a rider game that meant nothing. Yeah they lost to an inferior team, it’s almost like they were playing 2nd and 3rd stringers to rest their best players. Keep that rider hate strong.

Certain folks on here never cease to amaze with their sunny outlook. Lol.

CFL - was exposed for what it is, a sham to professional sports. The two scheduled games on Saturday should have had a simulcast televised start time similar to each other on each CTV/TSN so the results of each game were unknown to the participant teams playing. What did the viewership get with the first game results known by the second game participants was a amateur showcase at it’s best, not a good image by a so called professional sports league [CFL].

If the CFL is so bush, why do you keep bombarding it’s Forum with angry, inaccurate trash?

CFL teams should and must declare their game day player roster a day or two before the actual game being played. After many years of existence the CFL still needs to amend its league rules.

Nothing angry, never angry, just opinionated. Where does the opinion call out bush?

You don’t seem to have any understanding of how scheduling works or when the schedule is made. It’s also not as simple as flipping a switch and changing a game time at the last minute, inconveniencing 25,000+ fans and changing network TV schedules that have advertising commitments and prices set based on a certain time slot.

Sometimes it works out for a team and sometimes it doesn’t. Saskatchewan caught the scheduling break this year. That wasn’t planned as the schedule maker couldn’t have know that in late 2023 when the schedule was set.

Once Saskatchewan knew their game was meaningless they had the advantage of knowing they could protect some starters from injury, which they did. Unfortunately for them that resulted in a poor effort and no momentum heading into the playoffs. They were in the classic Catch 22 situation. I think they made the right choice as opposed to say having Harris knocked out for the year, which would be far worse than playing a meaningless game with starters resting.

Montreal and Winnipeg both were able to play full out with all their regulars and both have a week off to rest. It would have really hurt the Bombers to play all out and lose and have to play next week. As it turned out they are much better off than they have been the last 3 years they won the West when they rested various players and had no momentum. The only concession made was by Montreal who rested Fajardo in the second half. A wise move. That may have cost Montreal the game as Alexander is clearly no Fajardo and other than his first drive he was completely ineffective against the best defence in the league, especially in the fourth quarter and late in the game when even one more first down would have sealed it.

Teams must declare rosters 24 hours before the game. So you are opinionated, angry, and wrong again.

You are correct as I don’t sit at the table when the CFL schedule is being made so I wouldn’t know what transpires at said table, I do know each individual team lobbies for the benefit of their own team. Your rundown of explanations to yesterday’s games spot on and respected, Thanx.

Here is an article that describes the schedule making process.
