It seems that things keep on getting worse and worse for you guys. Or at least the alternatives.
First the promise of a new stadium in Hamilton. Although funded for only 15 000.
Disagreement on where it will go.
Talk about (Probably not serious) a shared stadium somewhere with the argos.
To now the stadium moving to York University solely for the argos.
Wow, would be very unfortunate for the Hammer if it did happen.
Wow. That’s quite the conspiracy theory. Don’t adjust your tinfoil hat.
Instead of finding a way to blame the federal government take another look at the municipal. All they have to do is agree to put the stadium in a financially viable spot for their ONLY tenant and the stadium goes ahead…in HAMILTON.
There has to be a few million or more unaccounted for from the billion dollar security bill for the G20 Summit that could be found here , just up to a politician to squeeze it out and that's where the stadium goes depending on where the politician is from.
Interesting quote in the article that somebody pointed out to me....
We don’t want to be held hostage by a team that plays eight games a year at home."
Actually it is 10 games so I guess this guy may not be a strong football follower. Still it shows that the relationship between the Cats and HOSTCO may not be a rosy as we thought.
Yes the stadium doesn't happen without the Cats but it also does not hapen without the Pan Am games themselves. Sometimes we need to reminded of that.
It baffles me officials who allow themselves to get quoted saying unclassy things like that. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but I would hope if I was in some sort of public office or an official in something like HOSTCO, I would try and come across a bit more intelligent and classy than this. :?
No problem with the anonymous HOSTCO statement. It simply reflects the reality as they see it. Its frustrating that the Ticats are being made out to be the bad guys when its obvious that only the mayor has been speaking to them and he has misrepresented the Ticats level of commitment to this particular endeavour. Its been clear to him for months that the Ticats were unhappy with the site and blew up at the sight of the business plan that removed present revenue streams they need to survive. This is obviously a lack of candid conversation with HOSTCO by the city but rather a series of platitudes designed to keep them happy with no reguard to the reality of the situation. It would appear the mayor continues to misrepresent the current impasse judging from the reaction of that individual. Who can be surprised at that? Do you expect the mayor to go to HOSTCO now and say " I really messed up telling you guys everything is fine when I knew it wasn't"
Hostage? That's a wee bit overly dramatic. While I appreciate ten dates (plus playoffs) does not seem much on a 365 day calendar, it's better than zero. Without the Tiger Cats this stadium will be another white elephant that Hamilton municipal polticans wasted precious tax payer dollars on for their own vanity and glory.
I'm not sure its even worth commenting on a statement made with no name behind it but it's very ironic to me that an organization putting on an event that will last a mere 10 days ONCE, ridicules another that exists 10 days A YEAR every year for a 100 years:)
Instead of publishing stories with unnamed sources maybe reporters should dig a little and get a perspective from the people running York University... Just sayin...
HfxTC: Ian Troop confirmed the York U alternative in today’s Spec report by Drew Edwards:
" Pan Am Games CEO Ian Troop confirmed to The Spectator that York University is potentially a “viable alternative” if Hamilton can’t resolve its stadium dispute.
“Hamilton’s destiny is in its own hands,” Troop said.
But Troop stressed the Pan Am host corporation wants Hamilton to be a major player in the Games with the stadium, a velodrome and a pool at McMaster University.
Troop said York University is a location whose full potential hasn’t been explored.
“They’ve got the tennis and if there is something else in the future, they’re a very viable alternative.”
I just wonder if Troop will make the same mistake ( if the York site needs to be used) with the Blue team as he did with the Tiger-Cats by assuming the Blue team can benefit financially from the “gift”…and not include them in any discussions.
That's what I mean... Does York want a 15k seat stadium or do they want to partner with a football team to build a 30k stadium ? I seem to remember York not interested in a shared venture with the CFL back when C&S were owners but I could be wrong.
One thing is for sure 62 million should build you an awesome stadium. York would actually make money on this deal even without a partner.
Bob has stated many, many times his purchase of the Ti-Cats was not a financial decision but one from the heart. He is trying to do his best to make the Ti-Cats a financially viable business entity however he has NEVER once stated that he will ever get rid of the team soley because of the bottom line.
IMO the Ti-Cats will never move anywhere while Caretaker has control of the team.
If there no Stadium,
I don’t see it this way
Bob is great guy but He is 1st and Foremost he is a Businessman
If can find a way to make small Profit some where
I could see him selling the Team to the Highest Bidder
Even if it was to move them else where.
I think He would try to find some who keep them here but that not likely
if there no stadium or it in a bad Spot …(Current Proposed Location )
I could see The Ottawa ownership buying the team
Then moving it into new Lansdowne Park stadium
Making Hamilton the new Canton Ohio
As I say, it's all about location despite what Bob has said directly or indirectly (unless of course the Ontario govenment decides to build a perfect 25,000 seater at west harbourfront for around $160 mill - political suicide though I say and if that happens, well, I would be flabergasted to say the least).
This stadium will not be built at west harbourfront, I'm very confident of that.
Yes AKT, not when you have Caretaker basically saying they will contribute to a site unless it's at west harbourfront. I think that is what he is saying, right?
Other sites aren't seriously being considered. Young would have already brought forth a site proposal and made sure everyone knew about it and made the discussions a site vs. site showdown.
Its' all about the WH.
The talks going on right now are about a new, structured, and formal financial relationship between the City /stadium and team instead of the ad hoc, seemingly year to year situation that has gone on previously.
Essentially it's : "If it's the WH make it worth my while"
I disagree Zontar, I still say it's about location. How in the world can they put just about 100 percent of public funds into a $160 mill WH stadium? Hey, if they do this, wow, I will be proven wrong.
But I don't for the life of me see this happening. Mind you, right now with Edmonton selling out a 60,000 seater for the Grey Cup before the season starts, and little old Ontario can't figure out their arse from a hole in the ground, maybe Ontario doesn't want to be outdone by prairie boys Alberta.
