Okay.. very good chance then I think you can agree on, based on the position of the players. If he didn't see it pop loose why wouldn't they say that the play had been whistled dead and that's it? It wouldn't be the first time this year that's happened. I think he realized his mistake. In any case.. it doesn't matter. This was a great game, easily the most exciting game of the season so far.. and I'm looking forward to the rematch. Until then boys!
"If he didn't see it pop loose why wouldn't they say that the play had been whistled dead and that's it?"
I believe that is Phillippe's beef with the call. The ref didn't see it pop loose and whistled it dead. Even if he realized his mistake after, he made the mistake. The question is, do we have the same replay rules as the NFL. If so, then the ref should have had to live with the fact that he made the mistake. Or maybe the CFL allows challenges of plays blown dead. If that is the case, then we are going to see some crazy stuff this year.
Yep that’s exactly what I’m saying.
The whistle blew after the ball was picked up by CALGARY. The CBC's repeated replays clearly showed that. [and we heard that because they showed the replay with out any talking 2 times]
HAHAHAHAHAH I don’t know what replay you were watching.
First of all. I want to say that it was the proper call and it was a fumble!
How ever the whistle did blow and I would like to know why the same rule did not apply as in the BC game where the ref stated. " An errant whistle from the stands caused the players to stop playing!" Well so did the refs whistle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvcxnhEi8qINow HT you claimed that you can clearly hear the whistle go after the ball was recovers when the announcers remained quite! Prob is you cant see the ball!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBBJNuNfgrMcare to restate that?
one of the few rules that makes sense in the NFL!
I have to agree because when the whistle blows the plays is over!!!!!
Ya don't stop and you get called for unnecessary roughness!
The ball had no businees being on the turf anyways. If it lands on the turf, anything can happen, including bad calls. Let that be a lesson to the Alouettes. 3 turnovers don't win Football games.
NO argument there!
It was a fumble....no question!
yes both teams played well!! it could of went either way, scary thing is, neither team was playing to their best of ability :o
grey cup 06 preview?
Warner gets
Philippe27, it is true Paul Lambert would have had a good shot at recovering the fumble, had the refs not whistled. But quite honestly, he should have dive on that loose ball whistle or not. Better recover it for nothing than let the opponent take its chance. That was not a heads-up play by Lambert.
ro1313 and hellothere, you can see on ro's YouTube excerpt that Calgary recovered the ball AFTER the whistle. You just have to put the pieces together.
On the first part of the video (without game sound), watch Terrence Patrick in the background. When Calgary recovered the ball, he was getting up, standing on his left arm.
Then watch the second part of the video (without a view on the ball, but WITH game sounds). The whistle blew before Patrick pushed himself up with that left arm.
Hence, the ball was loose before the whistle, but was recovered after it.
O.K., whistles aren't working. I say we bring in fog horns.
That is the worst call I have seen all year, they blew the whistle, the play was over, even if it was a fumble, the whistle went, play is over, that should have been too bad so sad Calgary....the reffing in our league gets worse every week.
I think the call benefitted both teams. The whistle first of all should not have blown the ball was loose falling to the ground the ref was blocked from view he should have delayed it a bit. Had the whistle not been blwon it was a Calgary touchdown. So to make both parties happy they call it a fumble and the play dead. Both sides should be happy!
Are you implying the refs thought it out and came up with a compromise?
No it just worked out that way now didn't! Yes the Als fans are disappointed to a degree but so are the Stamps fans! The call eased the suffering of both sides! Why are you implying that Ro! What are you still a bit jealous of our win!
nope not in the least!
Like I mentioned in another post.
Had to lose one sooner or later.
Better sooner than later
Sure Ro! Not jealous right!
