I don't care if I ever see another hockey fight for the rest of my life and was never a fan of fighting for the sake of fighting or to 'give your team a lift'. But I think this rule should be backed up with very severe penalties for the dangerous plays that lead to the vigilante justice. In addition, missed calls on hellacious hits should be reviewable in-game and players ejected immediately instead of waiting until after the game is over.

Yeah I agree on the dangerous plays and hellacious hits - eject them for that game and then have them sit out three or four games if upon review it meets the criteria for ejection etc. But it can't turn into soccer where everyone flops on the ground every time they get touched. If I were the ruler of soccer I would red card those who fake injury for incidental contact.

Yup. It should extend to retaliation for a clean hit too. Far too much of that now days. If a player who makes a good clean hit gets targeted - chuck the guys who target and fine the coach....

I couldn't agree more. Fighting needs to be eliminated from all hockey. I think fights might happen (they do in every sport but many have severe consequences) but I think the players involved should get tossed from that game and some subsequent games as well (TBD). I would also like to see fighting eliminated from Lacrosse. My wife and I went to an NLL game. We thoroughly enjoyed until there was a brawl near the end of the game. There was no purpose to the fighting other than the fans called for it. We left during the fight and won't return until the fighting is gone. As for hockey, we seldom go except for playoffs where there is rarely a fight as it can cost the team too much. I grew up playing hockey (played into my 40's as a goalie) but I did not like fights then and I don't like fights now.
