lately I have been wondering what distance I can still do. Maybe try it next summer, just for kicks

Geez, and I thought some of the stuff I say on these forums is a bunch of shit. I am not worthy.

I’d be lucky to just get it over the cross bar from any distance, then go for my knee replacement.

In the summer, I like to go to the field every now and then and I’m good from 35 with reasonable consistency, though off a tee as I’m alone.

I bet the cold shaves off 5-10 yards from my range though. Might give it a go next week and report back.

There we go. 35 is being put forward here. Let us know what happens RG

Like they used to say in the old drive in movies. Time to stretch and then go fetch your leg or something like that! Used to get a kick out of those hardcore popcorn peddlers at the intermission between the double features “time to stretch and fetch” lol.

He should call 911 before he makes the attempt.

Don’t forget your cleats.

anyone know if they still use/allow those metal baseball spikes??

had a great pair back in late 70s

Oh why not. I will put this here. And guess what, the origin is from Canada too!

Yes believe it or not as I discovered, these exercises vastly improve your kicking too. If I could go back in time, I would have trained like this in my teens and 20’s, no doubt.

Since the spring, I have been training footwork and other drills to add to workouts, which includes various upper body and lower body strength and plyometrics, beyond any running and various drills including sprints.

If you like the gym, great. If you like me don’t like gym, go to a park like me, which is a free gym. Or do both.

You think you have good footwork? Heh.
See how you really do with basic drills, which shocked me at first how off balance I was and slower I was than I thought, despite having kept an exercise regimen for years and also having dropped some weight.

Perhaps you too were fast and/agile when younger, and of course at some point with age that performance fades, but the good news is that you can improve both of those at any age too. Just don’t try to be 25 again doing stuff overconfidently!

After training what is essentially fighting footwork after a few weeks as I still do, as not a fighter and you don’t have to join some fighting gym either, do you know what I figured out?

After my footwork was better, so was my core power, balance, and kicking, even after months of not kicking a ball all winter!

Anyway, here’s an example of some of the drills that anybody can start.
He has other footwork videos too, and Gabriel Varga is none other than 6x world champion kickboxer, still fighting too and in the shape of his life at now 40-years old, who lives and trains in Victoria.
His YouTube following is now approaching 350K worldwide.

This is an example of easy regimen to start, but harder than it looks when starting out.
I hope it helps anybody else who does it.
The results will show after only a few times at it, and you’ll be amazed how your cardio will improve as well too, even if you have some cardio in your training already, as I have always had.

And this is all FREE right from an expert, like a bit more on YouTube these days, after you sort through all the bullshido
(all those guys making videos about whatever without ample coaching experience or who have no actual fighting experience).

You know what else works besides such fighting footwork?

Dancing - I’m not a routine dancer, but for those of you who are at any age, you have an edge as well.

All time in game best, wind aided 58 in 8 on 8 flag and touch leagues. Early 40s I was still around 50 under ideal conditions. Now, 45 if I don’t pull something. That is all after breaking my kicking leg.

Impressive!
