Serious Football Question

Do any of you think you could kick a long field goal right now? Like let’s meet up at a park later today and try it out kinda right now.

how long do you think you be confident to go?

I just watched Castillo nail a high fourties’ one and thought ‘no way could I do that. That’s impressive’ then started thinking, I wonder…

Considering I couldn’t even come close even before my right knee got screwed up, no.

I think I would still be good from 35-40. Could do up to 50 in my late teens, although not consistently or near pro level.

I’ll bring the ball though ok?

My wife played soccer at a very high level. She tells me she can still (41) make from 35.

I have my doubts. We have talked about going to a park and trying this out but it’s never happened.

Gotta do it Crash. Then report back the results.

Now? Well not so good.
About a decade ago?
Maybe 43 yards on a field goal max with an NFL ball with accuracy, but that was from a tee.
But a lower percentage drop kick is one I could sail farther, even with an NFL ball.
I can still pull off the latter, but not so far any more.
I was a better punter than kicker back in those days here in PA and in Florida just kicking around for exercise too.

Aha cool - and I still can kick free kicks on goal with a soccer ball, from outside the box with some swerve, with as much accuracy as ever here at age 54. I can’t believe the latter too. I do it about once a week for a fun day between workouts.

I just pulled my hamstring thinking about it

kicking was never my forte because my right foot was not born north/south, it was a little off to the right, I think the bones in the ankle grew slightly off. would literally have to break and reset for it to be corrected.

so every time I’d do a place kick (field goal) the angle was always wrong :frowning:

i’d nail it from 15 yards tops lol

I think 15 might be harder than 20 given the angle of approach. Try 20 first.

as long as i’m not the holder because that would wreck my manicure

Having, back in grade 12, resurfacing articular cartilage surgery on my dominant kneecap being born with what is called bipartite patella (a double lobed kneecap) that resulted in major water on the knee and pain and now osteoarthritis, the thought of even trying to kick a fg gives me the goosebumps. It’s amazing with how much kickers practice and kick in games they don’t damage their knees more often.

I’m uber confident I could manage 35, perhaps 5 more. Would need a few warm up kicks for sure.

Pin the ball on the crossbar and give me a sturdy ladder. I’m money at that range!
