Not entirely sure what I’m looking to gain from posting this on the CFL forums as I understand the crew here likely has nothing to do with the CFL’s Twitter account but I’m in a bit of a jam and could use some guidance/help from the good folks around here.
Recently, I discovered that I’ve been blocked by the CFL’s official Twitter account, @CFL. This is a bit perplexing to me, as I’ve always engaged positively with the account and participated in its discussions.
I hypothesize that I’ve been blocked for sharing links to my website + special teams’ articles underneath their posts, which is extremely odd to me considering I’ve done so for the last 1.5 years without issue. I’ve never engaged in any disrespectful or inappropriate behaviour, so this block has left me scratching my head.
I guess my goal is to get in touch with the CFL Twitter team to resolve this issue and ensure that I can continue contributing positively. If any of you have any insights or contacts that might help me get in touch with them, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.
Edit - It is worth mentioning that I often use the highlights found on the CFL’s Twitter page in my Special Teams Articles, which might also be the reason I’ve been blocked, but again, I’m not entirely sure.
Not just at the CFL, but as is the default at many websites with comment sections, social media, and in many groups in social media, you often WILL be blocked if you introduce any given form of self-promotion without permission.
It does not matter how long you succeeded otherwise before. Anybody with a website with social media extensions and commentary gets a TON of this unpaid self-promotion on top of all the SPAM and bots.
It’s not a personal decision at all usually, for usually they don’t even read whatever you linked and often it is done by an automated tool.
Avoid including those kinds of links as a new user or new commenter on any given social media.
I appreciate the advice. I’m hoping it can all be cleared up if I can just get a chance to plead my case/apologize to the team who is running the account.
I get all of my CFL news/content from twitter and mainly from their account so this is a huge blow. Has left me feeling pretty disheartened at the moment.
Well I feel for you, and it’s another sign of the times.
Any more when you mess up on such a front via social media or with anything free, whatever is done wrongly from a misunderstanding is almost impossible to have corrected with a live human being.
Many of those with a YouTube Channel know the matter well.
Some of those with a music-oriented channel, even claiming Fair Use under applicable law such as for educational purposes, are hit with copyright strikes such that then the time-consuming burden is on THEM to clear their name.
YouTube also has a strict policy and little human review of cases, for they don’t care and generally side with the company or artist claiming copyright and against Fair Use.
Three strikes and you are banned indefinitely too!
Rick Beato has a popular channel on YouTube, and he’s even gone to Congress to testify with regards to overdue reforms in copyright law due also to the vast developments in social media after so many of those laws were written decades ago at a time before the public internet!
Today’s world - when that AI decides that you are suspicious, and you are screwed.
There’s a lot about how this matter is the case already in China, but that’s another thread.
I’m going to pass the word on to that Genius Sports Chatbot to work hard to avoid such problematic action that creates more problems. It’s going to give modern AI a run for its money I tell you.
