In fairness to the infamous Ted White, being a great player doesn't necessarily mean you're a great coach. Many coaches had mediocre playing careers before finding success in the coaching ranks.
Richard Kent, though? Yeesh. Guy was fired before the season even started by one of the top head coaches in the league (Trestman). Not a guy I'd want guest-coaching my players, but that's just me.
Quite so
Coaching is as much about people skills
As knowledge of the game
Not at all the same skillset…or mindset
Which is exactly why Calvillo simply won’t bow out gracefully
Just switch names and you’ve expressed my sentiments exactly
I mean…White blew ONE post season
When thrown to the wolves after entering a game COMPLETELY unprepared
Mostly due to AC’s chronic and Machiavellian refusal to share the field
Refresh me…how many post seasons did Calvillo blow?
Pretty sure Trestman fired Kent. There wasn’t any of the ‘coach stepping down for personal reasons, etc.’ shpiel you normally get when it’s the coach’s decision to leave. Whatever it was, it must have been major enough for Trestman to can Kent before training camp had even started. That’s a red flag. Trestman isn’t someone who makes rash decisions, nor is he a coach with no regard for his assistants’ livelihood. If he fired Kent, it must have been for a very good reason.
