Saskatchewan at Edmonton Game Thread- Saturday June 8, 2024

I don’t see one of these and since the game is less than an hour away…

I believe this is the third game in a row where the outcome pre game is very difficult to predict.

Well, preseason the Elks turned the ball over 5 times, and the Riders won by 1 point.

I’m gonna bet the tradition of very competitive games between the riders and Elks continues.

And you are right - it is a tough pick.,

Tough to pick games are a good thing in my opinion. It hopefully means the teams are close in skill and talent and should result in more exciting games.
YMMV as the kids say.

Like the new third jersey - sharp looking. In the promo pictures it looked black, nice to see its just dark green.

Gotta finish those drives though…3-0 Elks.

Week 1 games usually are hard to predict since there’s so much player turnover on every team each year, and it’s hard to tell who’s coming to come out of the gate on a winning streak.

As an Argos fan this game is so difficult to watch.

On one hand, I love Cory Mace and want to see him win.
On the other hand, I love Boris Bede, Javon Leake, MBT, + Gittens and want to see them win.

I’ll be cheering for the Elks because of how snazzy their new jerseys look.

Haven’t all the games so far opened with a FG scored first? Regardless - points are points and they all add up in the end - maybe for a W

I don’t want the Riders to look too good since they’ll in be in Hamilton for their season opener next week, and I’d like to think that the Ticats have a hope o winning that game. :fearful:

Some “fun facts” that I found scrubbing the media notes for the game;

  • All-Time Game #230: This game will be the 230th in their long rivalry waged across 1938 to 2023. These clubs have met 101 times in Edmonton with the series in favour of the Alberta side 75 wins to 39 (2 ties).
  • #117 at Edmonton, 63 at Commonwealth/Brick Field: This week marks Edmonton’s 63rd meeting at Commonwealth Stadium/Brick Field with Saskatchewan. Edmonton leads 45 wins to 17 since 1978.
  • Win #700: Edmonton will be looking to reach the 700-win mark all-time in this game. Heading into Week #1, they are tied for the most wins by any franchise in CFL history with Calgary at 699.
  • Recent matchups: The Elks won the most recent game with the Riders but dropped the season series 2 games to 1. Saskatchewan is 9-2 in their last 11 games vs the Elks and 2-0 when Trevor Harris has started at QB.
  • Trevor Harris: Will be making his 102nd career start and he brings a 51-48-2 record. He is 5-5 vs Edmonton in 10 career starts. McLeod Bethel-Thompson: Returns to the CFL after a year away and brings a 24-23 mark in 47 career starts.
  • Last 12 games all close: The most recent 12 games between these two clubs went down to the final 3:00 and averaged a margin of under 6 points per game. The 12 games included 34 total lead changes in a very close set of contests.
  • 100 Games: Edmonton’s David Foucault will be playing in career game #100 this week.

Nice TD there by SSK

Plus I read that Harris needs 116 yards passing to reach 30,000 for his career.

Not at all. I got Sask, Sask and Florida.

That’s why we need TD’s…

Safety makes a nice play one play - bungles his coverage the next. We have a couple guys who are better safety’s…

Look at Damon Allen stylin…

Edmonton looked great that first drive after Sask bumbled their first drive. Then Sask looked great on their second drive. This could be a rock’em sock’em affair and possibly the best game of the weekend.

There you go Alford! Huge return!

I think Julien was the one to tackle him. He did a great job punting there. The gunners looked like they were worried about a no-yards penalty and their hesitation allowed Alford to find a lane outside.

We’ll have to see what the flag is.

I predict against Saskatchewan for a naughty block.
