Salary Management System: Four teams exceed the cap in 2022

The irony of it all lol

I remember thread after thread being started here crying the riders cheated and the cup should have an asterisk or even removed

That was nonsense then just as this is a nothing burger now

The CFL has clear guidelines and tier level consiquences for going over cap

If the CFL ever decides that it’s serious enough to strip a title they can add that new tier

So long as the consequences are applied equal and consistently then I have no issue with it

Cheating in sports is more clearly described as illegal acts to get an advantage and intentionally hiding those actions in order to conceal.them

In all 4 cases no team tried to hide it

Should just add a luxury tax. If you can afford to pay it pay. Might allow teams to keep star players a bit easier if they generate enough revenue. My 2 cents from a Bomber fan.

They could set the tax at 4 x the over cap amount and then give that cash split to non offending teams and have their caps increase by the same amount

Just like holding or offside on the field. March off the yards, as per the rule, and play on.

This is no different. Send off the cheque, as per the rule, and play on.

I like the idea … incentivize compliance.

Let’s not forget that many injured players’ salaries are counted against the cap.
The following articles help explain in part why some teams “break the rules”.
The article regarding the Bomber’s Achilles tendon woes would result in the player being placed on the nine game injured list leaving the remainder of the contract not counting against the cap. Their replacements’ salaries would count as well as the injured players’ pro rated salary so the team would realize an increase in salaries.
FYI, Bombers also had an inordinate number of one and six day injuries in 2022 that ended up counting against the cap.

To call this “cheating” is being disingenuous at best and can likely be attributed to homerism/jealousy.

Aw C’mon, I said “sorry” and had a sad emoji face what else do you want??

Not sure what you’re saying here. There was lots of proof and the refs don’t do anything about it in game.

Calgary Stampeders every year lose top notch players to free agency because Huf & Dickenson control their spending to stay within the CAP rules. They can not afford to pay these deserving players what they want. Teams like Toronto the past 3 years and Hamilton this year scoop up these players in free agency. Winnipeg gives in to their players in order to keep them disregarding the CAP rules.
In2013 Regina over spent their salary CAP in order to stack their team and win the Grey Cup. This past year Toronto did exactly the same thing.
The league needs to reduce all teams who exceed the CAP by 10x the amount they exceeded it by in the following year. If they again break the rules decrease the following years cap for that team by 20x etc until they stay within the rules. The CAP can only revert back by only an amount of 10x per year. Making a double offender take 2 years to get back to the real CAP if they keep staying within the rules. Giving a small fine like this year and in previous infraction years is not a deterrent as indicated this past year…

Somebody reported the Ticats and you can bet it wasn’t the Ticats or players. I would say it was the refs either during the game the infraction was made or during review ! (NOTE: The refs review all games on film as a training aid for their officials). During the game there maybe no penalty regarding the infraction so the league imposes a fine. Best to check the game rule book !

Speaking of not having evidence, what causes you to state that Winnipeg “gives into their players” and exceeds the cap. It is a rarity that Winnipeg exceeds the cap. You’re just making that up it appears. Last year Winnipeg was decimated by injuries, especially on defence. Someone more learned than I explained how this can cause a team to go over the cap, which is exactly what I suspect happened last year. They didn’t set out to go over the cap.

I hope you also read the proof of my comments about the Ticats ratio offenses in 2021 courtesy of TedT.

Again, all of this is a big nothing burger and certainly not evidence of a conspiracy theory to exceed the cap.

Regardless of injuries if the Player is badly injured he is put on the 6 game list and his remaining salary isn’t counted. The replacement player’s salary is only counted for remaining games he is playing for. It is up to the Team GM to ensure that they have sufficient CAP space to allow replacement players salary when/if required. Every year every team has injuries. Teams that stay within the Cap are not playing on a level field against those who cheat. No excuse for cheating!
In the Olympics a cheater has all medals they are awarded taken back. The League should not allow cheaters to claim the Grey Cup

The Stampeders have NEVER EXCEEDED the CAP! The Stamps have had injuries every year as have others. I remember the Stamps having a huge number of injuries two years in a row. Yet they manage the CAP and stay within the rules.
It is up to the GM to ensure the Team has sufficient CAP room to ensure they stay within the rules.
As for Winnipeg exceeding the Cap by over 64K ! (The worse of all offenders) One can speculate that winning the Grey Cup 2 years in a row the players want a salary reward. And yet the Team was able to re-sign them all. (except Lawler) This past year re-signing them pushed the team Cap over the limit. No excuse if the GM was doing his job like Calgary, but greed to get a 3-peat certainly is suspect.

In 2005, according to the Calgary Stampeders owner all teams in the CFL including the Calgary Stampeders exceeded the cap. Funny how you started out lecturing people on making false claims without proof but you continue to make false claims about the Stampeders when it suits you.

This is a Quote from an article from 2006 !
“The Canadian Football League and its governors believe they’ve reached a “landmark agreement” on what they hope will be a meaningful salary cap. But in a league where all nine clubs exceeded the limit on player costs last year, the question is: Can it work?”
2006 was when the League 1st introduced the SALARY CAP because as it stated all 9 teams salaries were out of control. So in fact there was no SALARY CAP in 2005. And the League felt they needed a way to control each team’s salaries.
I stand by my statement that CALGARY has NEVER exceeded the Salary CAP !

The Teams can’t hide going over the CAP because the league does an audit on all teams after the season concludes.(Hence this report of 4 teams going over) And since 2013 (When Riders won the Cup by going over the CAP) the League started a requirement for each team to submit their salaries approx every quarter of regular season. How a team could exceed the CAP with this measure smells of something wrong with the reporting.

Well this is what is wrong with people these days using social media. They have no honor, respect for the truth and care less about what accusations they spew. I suspect it is because they hide behind an alias so people don’t really know who they are that is spewing false things.

Kudos to your parents then for having the cojones to name you Stampederfan. Mine could only come up with Jon.
