Salary Cap

Folks,
I'm new to the Riders and have a few questions ?

What way does the Salary Cap Work for teams in the CFL ?

What is the situation on the New Stadium, have plans being submitted and is there any Photo's that I can view of the proposed plans ?

The CFL Draft, 1)Hows does it work,2)what effect does the NFL Draft have on it?,3) do players submit a letter of interest to the CFL to be considered for the draft?

Any help in answering these question would be great

Umm well I will answer these the best I can.

As for the salary cap I will just copy and paste from wiki :stuck_out_tongue:

"According to the new collective bargaining agreement, the 2012 salary cap will be set at $4,350,000. As per the agreement, the cap is fixed and will not vary with league revenue performance. The minimum team salary will be set at $4,000,000 with individual minimum salaries set at $44,000. "

I believe you have to pay if you go over the salary cap, I don't think its like the NFL where you just can't go over it its more like the MLB where you have to pay a 1$ for every $ you go over. I am not completely sure about this so don't quote me on that.

New Stadium is set to start construction next year, I don't believe any plans have been submitted yet.

CFL draft works like most other sports drafts. There are 6 rounds and the teams pick in order of where they finished. The players are all Canadian I believe. The draft is affected because some of the really good Canadian players go down to the NCAA and enter the NFL draft. As well as players who are drafted up here go down to the NFL and try out for teams. Sometimes you can draft a player and they will go down and try to make the NFL for 2 or 3 years so you won't get your rookie until 2 or 3 years later.

I don't entirely know how declaring for the CFL draft works. I believe that a player becomes eligible to be drafted as soon as he reaches 4 years of college/university.

Here is a good article on the draft I was reading to try and find some answer for you

All teams have a roster of 46 players every week. Once a player has played then his salary counts against the cap. If he is placed on the 9-game injury list/hide away list then their salary does not count. I am not sure if the practice roster amounts apply to the count as well. I believe the total this year is around 4.3 million per team.
Its really not a cap, in that you are allowed to go over the limit, you just have to pay a fine if you go over. dollar for dollar if its < 100,000, $2 for dollar for <200,000, etc. and if you go over 100,000 you lose a draft pick as well.
This is probably nopt completely accurate so you would be better looking here : http://www.cfl.ca/page/game_salary_man

this article from today can tell you more http://www.leaderpost.com/news/Regina+s ... story.html but council officilay said yes to the stadium. No pictures of the stadium have been circulated yet. At least none that I have seen.

CFL draft is only a draft of Non-Imports. So that usually means Canadians but there are some loop holes that Americans can go through to be considered non-imports as well. The people that are elligible are 4 years out of high school I think that are part of a CIS or NCAA program. So Junior football players are not draft elliigble and can be signed willy-nilly. I think. 2)The NFL Draft has very little effect on it other than if a certain player will be drafted in the NFL then he is less likely to play in the CFL so teams take that into consideration. 3)Not sure exactly how they do that.
Any help in answering these question would be great :D
