.....when the governors held their meeting in Phoenix a few weeks back it was reported that all nine teams were over the 2.6 mark and a couple were over the 3.8 mark.........no proof, but no denials about that statement.......my gut feel is that the two teams over 3.8 were Winnipeg and Saskatchewan, maybe Ottawa too...........
...I would think.. if you win the Cup...like Earl figures...thats great.. but if you don't win the Cup.. another financial BENEFIT would be to have it played in your own back-yard........providing you make it a great success...here's hoping....
Red
The point is no-one knows who. Like you said its your gut feeling and you have nothing to base it on
........'cept the governors did say that every team was over 2.6.......that is a fact........
I'm not denying they all went over, its just who was the worst that is in question.
and where would Edm.be in the spending …5.8 mill. 'everyone knows who spends buckets…and then hides the fact…Untill you actually see the books of ALL teams …I would be skeptical at best about who spent what…
......damn, I keep forgetting the [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags........
I doubt that Winnipeg was ovr 3.8 cuz god knows they didn’t play like they were worth more than that, Saskatchewan definaly did.
What they were paid has no bearing on how they played
bomber management said in the media that they were approx 500 000 below the 3.8 cap. sask was supposedly the third highest payroll so i assume they were at or over the 3.8. and still sucked. there goes the excuse they having been using for years. they need to learn how to spend their pennies a little more wisely.
Ro, I just can help but think it did, you get what you pay for. And the riders would have done better if Matt Dominque hadn't gone down so early in the season, if at all.
No Kanga,
In sports you dont always get what you pay for!!!!!!!!
Ask the Yankies!
Ask team Canada!!!!!!
Every team was over the 2.6 million, I think we all agree on that. And they should be over: it was an archaic figure, with only a slight increase since the cap originated in the 1980s.
But I heard that the 3.8 million was arrived at as an AVERAGE of the salaries of all the teams...but that only "a couple" are currently over the 3.8 million. So that means that the ones that were over were REALLY over.
I believe, as many do, that you can't buy a Grey Cup, but it appears some teams have been trying. And while they can't buy a championship, they can buy the best players. This makes it difficult for teams to keep their free agents.
So while I wouldn't want to engage in speculation as to which teams obliterated the cap, we know that those teams must have re-signed all or most of their free agents. Let's see, who didn't lose any free agents last year...no one I know of...let me think harder...nope. Not one team springs to mind [cough]Argos[/cough]
These teams may have even been doing some crazy things, like signing several high-profile players at a single position, just so they could prevent other teams from signing them, and so they could trade them to teams in the other division. I don't know of any teams that have done this [cough]Argos[/cough], but if they do, I'll be on to them.
BigDave, you should really take something for that cough.... I couldn't understand what you were saying....
I'm sure there's no team in the league that would stoop that low.
see paragraph (a) of the Salary Cap Bad post.......
