Let's look at some things here as to why Khari Jones is on the hotseat. Alright, it does not necessarily have to do with his record because as a head coach, he has gotten the Alouettes to the playoffs 2 years in a row after they missed the post-season I think it was a franchise record 4 maybe even 5 years So it really doesn't necessarily have to do with his record or his ability as a head coach. It has to do with politics.
Case in point. One of Khari Jones' best friends in the entire planet: Robert "Flash" Gordon, the guy he played with in Winnipeg. He was say forced but Robert Gordon is no longer on that coaching staff. And those receivers had great seasons. Not just good; great seasons in 2021, and Jones is forced to let one his best friends on the entire planet go.
Where do you think that's coming from? Above in Danny Maciocia because he's setting up the pieces for either him going down and taking the Head Coaching job or for himself to bring in his own guy because you gotta remember, Maciocia was hired after Jones.
The other thing people need to understand is that Khari Jones is tied to Vernon Adams Jr. Danny Maciocia is clearly Trevor Harris. That's his type of quarterback. It's closer to what Ricky Ray was when he was in Edmonton. I'm not say Trevor Harris is Ricky Ray, but I'm saying in terms of style and the way they play the game, that's what Maciocia likes in his quarterback.
So those are a couple examples as to why Jones is on the hotseat. It has really nothing to do with his record. It's all about politics. Football is a business and ultimately sometimes it can get a little messy.
What a bunch of nonsense predictions. I thought better of that site. Suddenly, having two good quarterbacks is a bad sign? If you don’t have good QB depth, everyone says you’re one injury away from your season being lost, but I guess we’re judged based on … feelings? Two of those writers literally say something feels “off” about the Als. Wow, thanks for such detailed football analysis, guys.
Dunk is saying nothing substantive here and dishonestly glossing over any facts that would inconvenience his claim.
Jones went from a home playoff loss to a road playoff loss. That’s regression. If Maciocia had wanted him gone, he would have fired him at the end of 2021. But it is entirely reasonable for Khari to be on the hotseat until he shows that he can take this team to the next level.
The entire receiving corps struggled to secure the football last year, which Dunk would know if he had watched any of the games. No surprise Gordon was released. Friend of Khari or not, football is a business.
No mention of all the penalties last year and the ways this team found to lose close games. No mention of the poor home record.
There is also the still unexplained last minute disappearing act of Jeff Reinbold at the last minute replaced by one of Maciocia’s CAPO. It is fairly obvious where this is going. Kind of sad that the media are into the sauce already.
3Downnation is a really bad rag. look at their prediction picks. The Western bias is comical. They drew so much ire that they shut down their comment section like little Biatrices. Most of them were dumped by media companies or the CFL, they have next to no access.
I still don’t think that’s why Reinebold left. If Maciocia wanted to bring in one of his own guys, he would have done it last fall, not waited until a few weeks before training camp to fire the guy he just hired. Makes no sense.
Only 1 game has been played. I am surprised of all these talks-possible replacements of Head Coach and other changes- early in the season. I could be wrong and I 100% hope so, but I don't think that the team is that good; again, only 1 game has been played but it is what I believe.
Yes, the Canadian talent has improved slightly but we can't say the same about American talent. Most players on the defensive line have passed their prime and, if team keeps losing, changes should be made although there are no A DL on practice roster. Danny's record on bringing American talent is not great. The best American players- Stanback, Lewis, Wieneke, Reid, Simmons- were brought in by Kavis Reed.
I have been saying that Vernon Adams Jr. is not a top QB and I still maintain it. I am not saying that Trevor Harris is the answer, but this team won't go far with Adams. It's Danny who signed him to lucrative contracts. He's overpaid and overrated.
Now, I hope that Danny will bring 1 or 2 American RB(s).
We probably have to wait a few more games to really know, but I see this team as being .500. And to get the 20-22,000 crowds the owner requires you need to have an elite team.
Sorry for being critical. Along with you, Sheldon I will wait 4 or 5 more games to reserve judgment.
I surely hope that they will win against the Argos next Thursday.
Unfortunately, Montréal is not the model sports town, unless you are The Montréal Canadiens. With a record like Les Canadiens for the past 5 to 10 years, football and soccer would not be alive in Montréal.Most media don't pay too much attention to the Alouettes. While Herb writes about the Alouettes, he is most of the time critical/ foresees bad moments and on.
There is a new basketball team which has started playing called the Alliance. They have gotten a little attention now. So another sport team in the city that will draw some attention.
And the V.P. of Operations is Annie Larouche who use to be with the Alouettes!
I think these are going to be more difficult times for all sports franchises. Covid has changed peoples habits and there is of course the current economy.
This is what Joey Saputo said today in Le Journal about CF Montreal:
